Customer Reviews
As a summer destination, this place has great activities and amenities. But in the off season and colder months it becomes a magnet for stray non-paying people off the street to use the shower house and laundry facilities, often making a mess and making it feel like an UNSAFE environment. Management assured us over a year ago that a security gate would be installed. Anyone can get in anytime. How about keypad locks on the doors???
Cross Creek Campground is mainly for RVs. We are here for at least a month. The park is well taken care of. The staff is polite. The restrooms and showers are well stocked and everything works well. The location is beautiful. Surrounded mostly by mature trees and the lake. Each space has a picnic table and a small grass area.
Although I enjoy a bit more seclusion and privacy between spots, we had plenty of room for a fire, tent, and to hang out, so I'm not upset with it at all. I think this is the only quasi-negative thing I could say about this place. The spots were cleaned and ready for us; we were backed up into the woods which provided some seclusion, which I really enjoyed. The whole campground was CLEAN. And it was clean for the entire weeklong stay. I'm an early riser, and the staff that maintained the grounds were always pleasant and I could tell they really cared about place... cared about their work and how it affects patrons. Man, when the bathrooms and showers at a campground are THIS spotless, people should know about it. I'll avoid a nice campground if the showers are in disarray. The community that lives there seems like a tight-knit family; putting on parades, face-painting, and children's activities. The vibe is very chill and even though folks were fireside sitting and celebrating the Buckeyes, it never once got loud. I may rise early, but I crash early too. The location is nice as well, with Alum Creek Lake minutes away, as well as downtown Columbus, Delaware, Alum Creek Beach, and all kinds of food and shopping. My wife and I will be back here for certain.
Hi I'm from Michigan Went camping in my truck camper for a couple weeks in Dec and found this gem. Quiet, had a spot on the water Full hook-up, yes sewer too. So close to everything yet you'd never know Although I don't have a dog (yet) I thought it was considerate to have a dog run where you could take it off the leash Pleasant people and family run
I was actually surprised that this little campground had so many fun activities and amenities! The playground had a lot of activities for kids and adults. All the equipment was in excellent condition. Of course the pool was closed for the season but they also had a tennis court, gaga ball ring, basketball court, set of 4 very nice cornholes, pirate ship for kids to play on. Volleyball court & trampoline... even a dog park with a big sink station you can wash your dog at! đ The first night we was there they had a country singer that was amazing đ and earlier a kids carnival. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Thanks Kathy & Kathy and the other lady (sorry I forgot your name) All the other campers were polite & friendly. There wasn't any loud, rowdy and drunk people screaming their heads off, thank goodness đ It was very peaceful & relaxing! Just what we needed! The campground was clean and well maintained. We had water and electric hookup which was perfectly fine. Their dump station was clean also with a water hose and a fresh fill station. They do sell firewood. Would definitely recommend! The prices are very reasonable for a night compared to other campgrounds. We will be back!!
We have stayed there for years with other families when we would all travel for our baseball tournaments. Last year we noticed a decline; the park itself wasnât as kept up, the pool was often closed for lack of lifeguards, and personnel just wasnât as friendly or accommodating. When we went to book this year, now they wonât let any âdangerous dog breedsâ in (we have a very well-behaved Rottie) and they were less than pleasant in their response to our inquiry. I understand this is per insurance, but youâre pushing more and more people away. We have chosen to go elsewhere and when another family from our team, who had already booked, wanted to cancel their reservation to change as well, they wouldnât refund their July 4th weekend. Again, I understand this is policy for holidays, but we are still 4 months out. Sometimes, taking the time to be understanding of peopleâs situations and attempting to accommodate goes a long way in gaining and retaining loyal customers.
My husband and I just stayed this past weekend. Weather was great, our grandkids loved coming to visit. They rode their bikes and scooter, rode in glow parade, met some friends at playground. They loved it! I have to say , âTracy â in the office was soo nice and friendly. She even went out of her way to find answers to my questions. Her friendly face nd friendly smile made all the difference!!
My review is based on my annual experience over the past eight years. This year, several of my concerns appear to have been addressed. While itâs too late for the mass departure of annual members this year, I hope this signals that Cross Creek is heading in the right direction. There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and Cross Creek raising its rates every year. After eight years of annual camping, our familyâalong with eight othersâmade the decision not to renew. Over the years at Cross Creek, weâve built lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories, but with skyrocketing prices and the campgroundâs steady decline, we were left with no choice. The turning point came when Cross Creek was acquired by Apple Brook. Almost immediately, staffing was reduced, and the amenities that once made it a premier destination were sold off. What was once a AAA-rated resort quickly deteriorated into a glorified state park. The signs of decline were evident: flowerbeds overgrown with weeds, neglected campsites, and unattended weekend lots. Some areas were so overgrown last year with weeds, it was hard to tell where the gravel ended and the grass began. Safety also became a growing concern during the off season as campers werenât vetted and transients sneaked into the park freely to use the restrooms, showers, washers and dryers. The weekend activities that once defined the campgroundâsuch as Harry Potter weekends, haunted houses, escape rooms, and top-tier live musicâwere replaced with rock painting, karaoke, and second rate bands. When I reached out to the front office two years ago to express my concerns and request a conversation with the owner, I was told he had no interest in speaking with us. The message was clear: with a long waitlist, we were replaceable. When I brought up the decline in activities and amenities, I was told that it was up to the annual campers to organize themâan absurd response. If youâre considering Apple Brook, know that it is not the Cross Creek of the past. The AAA-rated resort is gone, replaced by a contractor campground with annual rate hikes and diminishing activities. If youâre looking for a seasonal or annual spot, be prepared for a large price increase each year with fewer and fewer amenities. Apple Brook has taken its loyal annual and seasonal campers for granted, and as a result, eight families have either left or will leave in just the next few months. My hope with this review is that Apple Brook management sees this and takes action to restore Cross Creek to the incredible destination it once was.
