Customer Reviews
My son and I camped up there recently. The campground is in great condition, it is very well taken care of. Granted, we brought all of our own water up, so the lack of water there was not an issue. There are a few trails to hike around there, not many, but they easy trails. The campground host was personable and very friendly. Everything was extremely clean and well kept for being a national forest campground. We drove to Pawnee Butte from there, a lot of dirt roads to get there, one lane Road for the loop to get into the parking area. Extremely disappointed in the Butte though, they have the wind turbines/farms as a backdrop on the Mesa behind them. Took away the whole natural beauty of the Butte. The whole reason for going up to see them. Not to see a bunch of man-made junk up there.
Pros: This is a beautiful campground. SO much space between sites! Clean bathrooms. The camphost Celso was friendly and attentive. Grounds are beautifully maintained. Big level sites. Cons: No hookups at all. No dump station. And a water source nearby that is a mosquito breeding ground. Bring bug spray.
We camped here over a weekend and had a good time. The camp host was extremely friendly and attentive. The campground, including the bathrooms, were well maintained and very clean. Our only complaint, which is not the fault of the campground, is the location. Pretty small with no hiking trial of any real distance. Also, there was lots of a highway and road noise, as well as a neighbor with a rooster. If you’re looking for somewhere to escape the sounds of the city, unfortunately this isn’t it. If you’re looking for somewhere to camp for a few nights without headed to the crowded mountains, this is a good spot.
The flies are no joke, definitely bring a citronella candle or bug spray. The area is secluded but the campsites were a bit too close together for my comfort. I would return as the land is gorgeous but the current host left a lot to be desired. We ended up departing early due to his disrespectful comments towards myself and my fiancée.
Have stayed here 3 times and did again on July 13th. It was hot during the day but cooled off at night and there was an incredible lightning storm. My wife, daughter and myself had a great time and we were the only ones in the campground. Host was very nice and it was a great night of camping. Love this place!
