Wow! A+ Five stars! All the positive things. My most absolutely favorite KY state park to date! (And I've been to a bunch!) Truly looking forward to coming back and hiking more of the trails, staying at the cabins (or maybe campsite when it warms) and experiencing a moonbow. THE ONLY PLACE IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE! Whaaaaat?! Seriously this place was so beautiful and so fun, even in mid-December. I will absolutely be back during the 'on' season (though they are open year round and even have Christmas and New Year stuff) again, I love it!! Clean grounds and friendly staff to boot!
Great place to spend as much time as you can spare. Hiking in the area is 2nd best in the state, behind only the Red River Gorge. If you go to Eagle Falls, climb the stairs to the CCC overlook. There's not much to see from there, but if you walk behind it you will find a trail that leads you to Six Gun City. It has been an abandoned entertainment venue, some call it an abandoned amusement park, for about 40 years. Most of the buildings are still standing. Enjoy!
Much more impressive in person especially after heavy rainfall. Very reminiscent of Niagara Falls, but on a much, much smaller scale, but still pretty awe inspiring. The park is pretty well maintained with a visitor center a gift shop and a few places to grab snacks or even a small meal. There are trails that shoot off from the main Falls area as well as a beach. There is also a resort area that looks pretty good as well. We went in early April on a Sunday and it was fairly busy. Can't imagine what it's like as the weather warms up. Well worth the visit. Absolutely beautiful.
Definitely worth taking the time for the easy drive and to check out the park and water falls. Plan to spend some time walking the path to see the falls from the many vantage points. Most are easy to walk while a few require several stone steps and smooth stone surfaces that can be slippery when wet to be navigated. The views are great and offer many great pictures. There is a nice gift shop available. You can bring your dog to walk the paths to see the falls, but apparently pets are not permitted on the other hiking trails.
Cumberland Falls State Park is free to enter, and has lots of parking available. There's a gift shop and visitor center as well, with the gift shop opening at 10am. The waterfall viewing areas close at midnight, which allows you to view the moonbow from the viewing platform on nights with a full moon! There are multiple viewing areas, some more challenging to get to than others, but all walks of life will have the ability to view the waterfall from at least one of the overlooks. Today, November 30 2024, there were only a dozen or so vehicles there at 10am which made it very easy to navigate around and have the overlooks to myself.
