Curlew Campground Introduce
Nestled in the heart of Malad City, Idaho, Curlew Campground is a hidden gem for outdoor enthusiasts and families seeking a peaceful retreat. Surrounded by the stunning beauty of the Curlew Reservoir, this campground offers a unique blend of natural charm and modern amenities.
The campground features several covered picnic areas, perfect for day rentals, and clean outhouses that ensure a comfortable stay. Whether you're camping in an RV or a tent, you'll find plenty of shade from the tall trees, making it an ideal spot even during the warmer months.
One of the standout features of Curlew Campground is its proximity to the reservoir, which boasts a mesmerizing blue-green hue. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, from fishing and boating to simply soaking in the breathtaking views. However, be mindful of the bugs that come out at sunset, especially if you're cooking outside or staying in a pop-up camper. While the bugs can be a bit of a nuisance, they are manageable, and most visitors leave without any insect bites.

Just drove through! Beautiful place. The reservoir is so blue/green. Outhouse was clean. There’s several covered picnic areas to rent I’m assuming for the day. For some reason there’s not an option to upload pictures. If I’m awake later I’ll upload the pictures I took. .
We went in upper 90 degree weather and still had a blast. Maybe this should have been common sense to me but if you're not staying in something totally enclosed like an RV, try to be inside and lights out around sunset because the bugs come to party! I think because we were so close to the reservoir. You can turn lights on during the night as needed but our first night, we were cooking outside and our pop-up camper was infiltrated 😂 They can fit through mesh and we had to vacuum the insects out the next morning. Decent shade from tall trees and they're growing more. Nobody was out causing a ruckus but the group sites were very noisy all night from across the campground. The only bug I saw in the bathroom was a tiny earwig and he was chill. Went home with zero insect bites. Had no issues with rodents. Did have to pull some stickers from my dogs paws while we were there but nothing serious. There are thistles though, so just pay attention to where your kids and pets are.
Perfect for a one night stay after a long day of driving. The restrooms are horrible and the host was riding around shouting on a quad all night. One of the restrooms has a wasp nest. I did see deer and a bald eagle in the morning.
We rented the large pavilion area. It was nice to have the shade, tables, and drinking water. Camp hosts were nice. If there was just a little effort put in to the grounds and the water area, it could be really great, but it's fine for what you pay. The beach is dirt, but the water is a comfortable temperature. The access area from the campground is through a tiny opening and kind of a pain to get through with a stroller or wagon, but...again, it's cheap.
It was almost empty when we went. Best night sky I have ever seen, so many stars!!! Fantastic wildlife: birds, jackrabbits. The water is so pretty and clear. This place is perfect if you’re in love with nature. So peaceful.
