Great host and nice and spacious campsites. I expected pit toilets but they were fully functional plumbing and very clean. The host at the time had firewood for sale which was nice since there aren’t any amenities this far out. I didn’t book a reservation but saw that there were a lot of first come first serve sites we took a chance on coming out on a Saturday and had a few to choose from. The dirt road was a little rough getting out to the area but paved at the actual campground. An easy walk over to the water but not right next to the water.

We took my family which included my non-camping brothers and their children as well. This was going to a fun time for the family. The sites were okay, but the fire pits were so close to the tables that we could not put up a canopy without risk of sparks creating holes in it. The sites did not provide much shade. The pictures showed you closer to the reservoir which in reality isn't true. You can walk, but most people would probably drive so that they could fish.

So much wasted opportunity wih this campground. It’s clear it was built in the 60s when the dam was built. A lot of thought went into to the campground as well, too bad it’s never been updated though. Most campsites are extremely short though many have water. If you’re pulling a trailer you’ll need a double site most likely. The camp hosts were super friendly and there’s multiple flush (yes, flush) bathrooms throughout the campground that were pretty clean. So much better than pit toilets. So 2 stars for excellent hosts and flush toilets! The downside is that the campground is in desperate need of some upkeep and updates. It’s stuck in the 60’s. Everything is just old. Also, the lake is kinda nasty, but great if you’re a fisherman (but nothing else really). The lake itself isn't all that pretty and it has algae and seaweed lining its shores. So, not good for water sports unless you're in a boat fishing. Perhaps the biggest thing plaguing this campground is that you have to endure 15 miles of the worst gravel road ever, full of washboard, potholes, and large dips. It's take 45 mins. to travel just the gravel section. Oddly, the entire campground is paved though it's a very rough road right up to the entrance. When we were here, mid September 2024, there was a small herd of cows roaming the campground. So, unfortunately, there were cow patties everywhere. On the road, in the campsite, near the bathrooms, on the trails, on the lake shore. Literally everywhere. On our last day some ranchers on horseback with a pack of 8 dogs came through and rounded up all the cows, but too little, too late. Why they let them roam through the campground is beyond me. They literally turned the entire campground into a cow wasteland. Unfortunately we’re not fishermen nor are we cow farmers so we will not be back. Which is unfortunate because this could be a great little campground if someone just gave it some attention.

Beautiful place that's not too crowded. Because of native bears and other wildlife, you cannot leave any food or scented stuff lying around or in your tent. I didn't see any bears, but there were deer, cows, squirrels, and field mice. It did rain every afternoon that we were there, but still a fun place to camp, fish, paddle board, kayak, and picnic. Accessed by about 20 miles of dirt road with a 20 mph speed limit, so it takes a while to drive in. If the wildlife, rain, or roads deter you, good. 😉 I don't really want the place to become overcrowded!

The drive is a little rough for the last few miles but our compact car made it like a champ. Very beautiful camp ground! We stayed in D2 and loved the spot. Great spot for a 6 man tent, excellent shade coverage and close to bathrooms and close to water. Within walking distance to the reservoir and Nature trail.
