Really nice campground with big RV sites that can accommodate big rigs. There was a plenty of space between sites and the campground is surrounded by trees from the National Forest. It is quiet and very well taken care of. As opposed to other review comments, I found the staff to be very nice and helpful. Easy to get to Custer State Park, Mt Rushmore, and Crazy Horse from their location. We had one issue that others have reported as well. The water killed our inlet water filter in 1 day and it had just been replaced 30 days earlier. We switched to using our on board water that was filled at a previous campground for the duration of our stay. I’d give the place 5 stars if no water issue but seems like something they need to address.
I can’t say enough about the beautiful scenery in all directions in this campground, and it just keeps getting better as the sun moves across the sky. Our campsite was quiet and the sites are very long. We had enough room for our 40ft rig and two cars. It looks as if all the sites are just as long in this section. Each site had a fire pit and we had full hookups with 50amps. The grounds were well manicured and a new restroom just opened with a new laundry room to be opened soon. The campground is also pet friendly. The owners were very nice and Cheryl was extremely friendly and helpful. I love history and the fact that Custer had used this area to rest his troops here in the late 1800’s is amazing. I have enjoyed our stay and when we are back in this area we will be back to stay here again at Custer’s Gulch RV park.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Wish we would have booked a little longer, actually! Nice long level sites. Well maintained park! Quiet and peaceful at night! Close to downtown Custer, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse memorial. We were greeted with a bunch of information check out during our 3 full day stay and it was all worth it! Thank you for a great stay. We will be back again, for sure!!!
Large campground located a couple miles from the city of Custer. It had rained previously and the lead in and camp roads were pretty muddy. Expect to wash your vehicles if it rains.Pretty scenic area! My camping cabin was just ok. No driveway- I had to unload off the muddy camp road. Would have been nice to have a microwave and mini fridge like many camping cabins have now. AC filter and ceiling fan were pretty dirty, a bit of a concern in a little space. Pretty area, easy check in though they fussed when I wanted in before 3. I even offered to go in and sweep it if that's what was holding back the check in. Not much in a camping cabin to clean. Bathrooms and showers were usable, campground communal style. Did not visit other campgrounds in the area so it might have been the cream of the crop. Stayed only one night.
Great place, great people! Absolute peace while we were there this week. We've got kids and didn't feel out of place (but we keep a close watch on them), but this place isn't a kids paradise by any means. Not bad for them at all, as it's really just a base to go explore all the area has to offer (and it has a lot to offer!). We really enjoyed the serenity of the campground. Employees were not intrusive but seemed like they were there for anything needed. The ONLY reason for minus one star was the water wasn't great. Very stained rusty. We've got a triple filter system and still couldn't get it out of our sinks/toilet. Evidenced by stains in the bathroom facilities too. Totally clean bathrooms, don't get me wrong, I showered in there one night to shave and it was totally clean and fine; just a little surprised as we've stayed at some sketchy places in years past that didn't give us the water issue in our rig. I wouldn't let it dissuade me and would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat! Thanks for letting us be a part of your campground and beyond wonderful area!!!
