It is the ideal resting spot for those heading west towards the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore, or for those planning to spend a few days exploring Mitchell’s unique attractions, such as the World’s Only Corn Palace.
The campground is known for its blend of practicality and comfort. Its layout is designed to accommodate travelers, offering numerous pull-through sites that make arrival and departure hassle-free for even the largest rigs. Visitors consistently praise the dedication of the staff, including the owners Josh and Rhonda Barlean, for keeping the grounds in excellent condition. From the cleanliness of the facilities—particularly the bathrooms and showers—to the extra amenities like a swimming pool and small arcade, Dakota Campground goes beyond the basic roadside park to provide a genuinely pleasant experience.
While its proximity to I-90 is a major draw for accessibility, the mature trees and the park's deliberate layout help mitigate the noise, making it a peaceful stop. This combination of location, convenience, and superior maintenance makes Dakota Campground a highly recommended choice for a simple overnight stop or an extended stay in the Mitchell area.

Great campground just off i90, and with shade! Bathrooms very clean. Sites level. You can hear the interstate noise when outside. We didn't hear it in our rig. We'll definitely stay here again! With our Good Sam discount it was $35 for electric and water. 30 amp.
Beautiful campground. Super well maintained and very easy to get around. Plus the laundromat and showers are an added bonus. Unfortunately my tent blew away during a storm so I wasn't able to sleep here for very long but will definitely come again
Very nice, very reasonably priced campsite. Stopped to use the laundry which was great. Machines were not expensive a buck 50 for washer and a dollar for dryer. Both in good shape. Grounds were well maintained. For being in off the highway campground is absolutely sufficient with many many trees only drawback his sites are close to each other.
Right off I-90, but no road noise. Great sized pull thru spots, lots of shade trees. Nice pool, open late. Clean, clean and clean!! The bathrooms and laundry are well taken care of.
Family friendly campground just outside Mitchell. Close by to shopping and I-90. Quiet and restful night. Nice pool and playground. Lots offer full hookups and mature trees gave shade to the park. Fully enjoyed our stay.
