We stayed 1 night in September on a tent site with electric and water hook ups. The little petting zoo was super cute, a goat kept getting out and visiting us. Bathrooms/showers were very clean. We enjoyed the pool while we used the coin operated laundry. There is a trolly you can take into Deadwood. Overall, a nice experience.
We had a tent site at this KOA, and it was great. The facilities are nice and clean. The grounds are well kept, and the staff was super friendly and helpful with getting ideas for what to do around town. They even have goats and a donkey that the kids can feed! Highly suggest weather it's tenting, lodging or RVing. It's great for all 3 ways to experience the black hills.
The owners are FANTASTIC!!!! Camp very clean, well priced, safe and even though we didn't get to book one they have 1 of a kind covered wagon rooms. By far one of the #1 KOA I've been to on my cross country trek. Cannot say enough great things about the owners. Bless them.
Pics show view from campsite, dilapidated building/storage, had to pass this each time leaving site/going to bathhouse. May as well have been camping in the middle of a barnyard with the goat/donkey odors! Animal feces laid like land mines to walk through and track into our camper. Worker was quite rude on our arrival, telling us we were ‘blocking HIS driveway’ when we had just finished checking in and there were NO other vehicles in sight. Bathrooms mediocre, shower curtains filthy with mold, avoided touching everything. Apparently, there was a ‘septic issue’ the day before arrival and office/store/bathrooms wreaked of septic odor. This was our 5th KOA stay in 5 days and was, by far, the exception and the worst of all of them.
Our tent site was barely a site. We have an average sized 4-person tent and it was 2 feet from a cabin on top of rocky ground and my car barely fit. It's right above the highway, so between the rocky ground and the semis trucks on the highway, I basically didn't sleep. Also, there's a resident dog that just runs around the campground even though leashes are required outside of the dog park area, and a goat from the "petting zoo" was wandering around. I would never bring my dog here. FYI, no wood fires are allowed at campsites - grills are charcoal only. The bathrooms were the reason I gave this two stars instead of one. They were clean and well maintained. It is also strange to me that we're in the middle of this beautiful forest and their materials are focused on gambling as the main attraction.
