Deer Valley Campground offers a charming and secluded camping experience nestled among the trees in Upper Lake, CA. This small campground is ideal for visitors looking to escape into nature while enjoying basic yet convenient facilities. With only six sites available, Deer Valley provides a peaceful setting for campers seeking a tranquil retreat in the great outdoors.
Located in the hills, the campground features a dirt road that is generally manageable for vehicles with 4WD. While it remains level under dry conditions, caution is advised during rain as the terrain can become slippery. The site is well-suited for Jeeps and ORVs, offering an adventurous route to reach this hidden gem. Although internet access is limited (1 bar Verizon, no AT&T), the peaceful surroundings make it a worthwhile destination for those seeking a disconnect from digital distractions.

Simple little campsite among the trees (the shade was welcome in the heat). Definitely appreciated the heavy duty concrete picnic tables. Unfortunately no water but did have vault toilets. Well worth the $6/night (paid by check in the on-site drop box...oddly the instructions said "make check out to" followed by, well, nothing. I wrote US Forest Service.)
Up in the hills, 6 sites, dry camping. Very nice camping among the trees. Road is dirt and for the most part, fine and level. Watch when it rains as dirt turns to slippery mud will cause problems. I used 4wd and needed it several times. If dry, shouldn't be a problem. Jeeps, ORV will come through as it's a pretty drive. 1-bar Verizon sometimes. No ATT phone.
Small campground that survived the Mendocino National Forest fire. You need a hardy vehicle to get into this location. Great place to camp if you want to ride your dirt bike on the trails from the campground.
Far away from everything except of course our federal government...ticketing people for riding dirtbikes on the dirt where less than 01% of the public has ever gone! They enforce all traffic laws on roads with coordinates as names. But big enough to ditch them fast with a finger....not their "pointer" finger either!
We came up here to go to Lower Nye Campground and took the south way in but 2 miles from the campground a massive tree was blocking our way. So we doubled back and came here to Deer Valley and it was perfect, no one else was there, the campsites are huge and, it was just beautiful. I would camp here again for sure.
