I enjoyed my stay at Desert Cove campground in Elephant Butte State Park. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Camp Host, Scott, was very helpful and courteous. I did see a coyote following me and my dog as we walked a trail shortly before the sun began setting...scary! There is a playground and a trail leading to it but it's a ways from this area of the park. Lots of dogs on leashes which I love. Seems like everyone cleans up after them as well. There are stations with bags for you to use. It was a nice stay. I was here 9 days in late May with electric. Temperatures were high 80s to 90s so the ability to use my air on the afternoon was a blessing! 🥰👍💯

Elephant Butte State Park Desert Cove Campground * WORST PLACE YET ! It's $14 for an electric site .. but not really .. because you have to reserve online. There is a fee of $4 per day when you reserve... so it's never $14.00 .. it's $18.00. I generally boondock on public land and only went because I needed to have a good wi-fi connection to download some things and upload some things etc, a nice shower, and electric to charge all my power banks.. So, I called ahead .. ME: It says you have wifi, is there good wifi in the Campground - THEM: yes ! ME: Are your showers warm, or do they actually get hot - THEM: Oh no, they get as hot as you want .. ME: ok, because the last State Park had one of those dumb push button showers where you can't adjust the temperature and have to push the button every 15 seconds THEM: ( Chuckle ) .. no, ours are very nice and hot water ... NOT ACCURATE ! Slightly warm showers, no temp adjustment plus unheated bathrooms, and push button every 10 seconds for water. The wifi signal was very weak AND not free. $3 per hour or $8 per day .. The sites were crammed together with no space between. Most people I think were paying by the month, so it had a very trailer park feel. Dogs barking.. the elderly man next to me cussing at a video game until almost midnight .. bad roads, ancient bathrooms, and the dump station IN the Campground. Not down the road like every other place I've been. Literally right behind the last row of campsites. The lake was pretty, the $10 tent sites and primitive sites look awesome, but Desert Cove Campground was a mistake.

We loved our stay there. Campsites were clean. There are a lot of places to walk and enjoy the bunnies, quail, and many other creatures. We had a bird feeder out and were very entertained. However, seeds on the ground is not allowed. The drive to the water wasn't long. You will get stuck in the sand without 4X4. Lot's of campers beside the water. Campground has electricity and water. Dump stations are close by.

$14 for electric and water. Dump in area. Desert Beach walking distance. Covered Picnic tables with fire pits. $12 fee to reserve in addition to fee to stay. Plenty of places to park on or near the beach. Nice areas. Clean. Very windy while we're here. We will definitely be back. We assume summer will be very busy so we suggest you reserve in advance. You may not get a spot without it but we saw plenty of parking on and very near the beach and no signs saying you can't park overnight there. We saw a fee RVs and pull behinds parked. Don't know if they stayed overnight.

We loved this campground!! Clean site, water/electric hookups with dump station on site, nice loop, didn't use the restroom facilities but looked clean as we came by! 3 different covered picnic areas in the middle of the loop with grills to use. Our site was #11 and you could see Elephant Butte Lake from the site! Nice covered awning with picnic table provided. Fire pit also available. Saw lots of wildlife in the area, short drive to the lake! We had so much fun here!
