This article will provide a comprehensive look at what makes Devils Elbow Campground a prime destination for locals seeking an authentic outdoor experience.
Devils Elbow Campground is more than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV; it's a gateway to the stunning natural beauty that Montana is renowned for. Situated in a picturesque setting, this BLM-managed campground provides a rustic yet comfortable environment for campers. It’s a location that allows for both peaceful relaxation and active exploration, catering to a wide range of preferences. The emphasis here is on embracing the natural surroundings, offering a genuine camping experience without the distractions of extensive modern amenities. This focus on nature makes it particularly appealing to those who appreciate the simpler joys of outdoor living.
One of the most appealing aspects of Devils Elbow Campground is its strategic location and excellent accessibility. You'll find this beautiful spot at 5988 York Rd, Helena, MT 59602, USA. This address places it just outside of Helena, striking an ideal balance between convenience and seclusion. It’s close enough to town that a quick trip for supplies or a meal isn’t an arduous journey, yet far enough to provide that essential sense of being away from it all. This accessibility is a significant advantage for local Montanans, allowing for spontaneous weekend getaways or even a midweek escape without extensive travel. The drive to the campground itself is often part of the experience, offering glimpses of Montana's vast and varied landscapes.
While Devils Elbow Campground focuses on a more traditional camping experience, it provides essential services that ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Understanding what's available helps campers plan accordingly and make the most of their visit. The emphasis is on providing clean, well-maintained facilities that support a natural and self-sufficient camping adventure.
Vault Toilets: The campground is equipped with numerous vault toilets, ensuring convenient and accessible restroom facilities for all campers. These are regularly maintained, contributing to a clean and pleasant environment.
Clean and Maintained Campsites: The campsites themselves are noted for being clean and well-maintained. This commitment to upkeep ensures a welcoming and tidy space for campers to set up their temporary homes.
No Hookups: It is important to note that Devils Elbow Campground does not offer electrical, water, or sewer hookups. This means campers should be prepared for a more primitive camping experience, bringing their own water and power sources as needed. This characteristic reinforces the campground's appeal to those seeking a true outdoor adventure.
Online Reservation Option: While not a direct service on-site, the ability to reserve campsites online is a significant convenience. This allows campers to secure their preferred spot, especially those coveted river view sites, in advance, reducing uncertainty upon arrival.
Devils Elbow Campground stands out for several key features and highlights that contribute to its popularity among local Montanans. These attributes enhance the overall camping experience and provide unique opportunities for enjoyment.
Great Views: As highlighted by past visitors, the campground boasts "great views." This likely includes scenic vistas of the surrounding Montana landscape, potentially including the river and distant mountains, providing a beautiful backdrop for your stay.
River View Spots: A particular highlight for many campers are the "river view spots." These coveted sites offer direct views of the river, providing a serene and picturesque setting that enhances the camping experience and offers opportunities for riverside activities.
Proximity to Lakeside Bar and Grill: The campground's close proximity to the Lakeside Bar and Grill is a convenient amenity. This allows campers to easily access a local dining option if they choose not to cook at their campsite, offering a nice alternative for meals or a casual outing.
Location Outside of Helena: While close to Helena for convenience, its location "outside of Helena" means it offers the tranquility and natural setting often sought after in a camping experience, away from urban hustle.
Clean and Nicely Maintained Camp: Consistent feedback points to the camp being "clean and nicely maintained." This dedication to cleanliness is a significant factor in ensuring a pleasant and comfortable stay for all visitors.

Great campground, great views! Close to Lakeside Bar and Grill
This was a great campground! It's a nice location outside of Helena, but not too far away that you can run into town if you needed something. There are no hookups, so the price is a tad pricey compared to some others that I have stayed at with no hook ups, but the camp was clean and nicely maintained. There were plenty of vault toilets as well which was nice. I'd say it's worth the extra little fee to reserve a campsite online and snag a river view spot!
Our campsite was right on lake and beautiful. Walking path was a plus. Weekends are crazy. The boat ramp is in the campground and it's hard to maneuver around. There was no water or dump station. Probably would not stay again
Beautiful views, water, restrooms, space, what more could you really ask for. I had a little birthday gathering here, and it was a great time. It was very quiet, and the views were breathtaking. I would highly recommend booking a spot here some time and seeing it for yourself.
Me and my husband had a great time camping out. We've never been to devil's elbow before our first time. The host was very wonderful. I would recommend if you are going there with just couple like Vibess go on the weekdays. Because it really does get filled up with family and friends on the weekends.
