Dirt Flat Campground Introduce

Nestled along the serene banks of a river in El Portal, California, Dirt Flat Campground offers a unique and tranquil camping experience. This small, non-electric campground is ideal for seasoned campers who appreciate the beauty of nature and seek a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The campground features 6 to 7 well-maintained campsites, each providing a peaceful setting amidst stunning natural surroundings. While the campsites do not offer electricity, they are perfect for those who enjoy a more rustic camping experience. The restrooms are clean, though they are not flush toilets, ensuring a basic yet comfortable stay.

One of the standout features of Dirt Flat Campground is its proximity to the river, offering campers the opportunity to relax by the water and enjoy the soothing sounds of nature. The friendly camp host adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making your stay even more enjoyable.

However, it's important to note that the campground is located near a road, so some noise from passing cars may be heard. Additionally, there is no cellphone signal, which can be a downside for those who need to stay connected. But for those looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature, this can be a positive aspect.

Here are some key highlights of Dirt Flat Campground:

  • 6 to 7 non-electric campsites
  • Beautiful riverside location
  • Clean, non-flush restrooms
  • Friendly camp host
  • Peaceful and natural surroundings

Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the campground's beauty and tranquility. One camper described it as a "very beautiful spot by the river," while another appreciated the well-maintained campsites and restrooms. However, some noted that the noise from passing cars and the lack of cellphone signal could be drawbacks. Overall, Dirt Flat Campground is highly recommended for experienced campers seeking a quiet and scenic retreat.

Very beutiful spot by the river. Friendly camp host. Restrooms are not flush, but clean. Biggest downside is the noise of cars driving by.

Dirt Flat is a small campground having 6 to 7 non-electric campsites. The campsites and the restrooms are really well maintained and the natural surroundings are also really beautiful. It is on bank of river. Only dowside is that you might feel a bit aloofly as it is a small campsite and especially if there are no other campers. Also there is no electricity, no dedicated ranger and no cellphone signals. Might not recommend for first time campers, but if you are a seasoned camper looking for a quite place in nature then it is a really good campsite.

Located next to the Merced River. Campsites vary from large to small. Bathrooms are nearby and well maintained. I believe there's 5 spots. The first three are large to medium sized. Last two are small. The sandy beach on the river is about a quarter mile. It's best to drive if you're with very young kids or older adults. I mention the sandy beach down the river because the area of the river the campsite is on is very stony. Boulders and slippery rocks dominate this part of the river. Walking in the river is hazardous around this area. Best to go to the sandy beach. You'll thank me. You're welcome.
