This central location means it's within a reasonable driving distance from major population centers like St. Cloud (approx. 1 hour 16 minutes), Minneapolis (approx. 2 hours 8 minutes), and even Fargo (approx. 1 hour 42 minutes), making it an ideal choice for weekend getaways or longer vacations without extensive travel.
The campground is set on the tranquil Dower Lake, a smaller body of water that offers a more intimate and less bustling experience than some of Minnesota's larger, more famous lakes. This walkability enhances the sense of a cohesive recreational hub.
The address on Thunder Road suggests a quiet, localized approach, typical of many recreational areas nestled slightly off main thoroughfares. For RVs, the campsite pads are described as "level," which is a significant plus for ease of setup. Awesome little campground. Level pads, noise was kept to a minimum. Showers need help. They were clean, but old. Smelled like a washing machine. Stains on walls from years of water. Just needs an overhaul. The amount of "campers only" signs and "we will prosecute" notices about keeping the shower clean or vandalism was concerning. We felt safe in the area, but the signage was more than excessive.
This was a wonderful place to camp! Large spots for rustic and electric camping alike. There are plenty of things to do between swimming, the park, volleyball, disc golf, the pier, and just a nice area to walk around. Free firewood, which was awesome! Free shower rooms (not the newest) with plenty of hot water (after about a minute), definitely could use new hooks to hang things on, or perhaps a shelf....but we felt safe and got clean! My son and I very much enjoyed our stay here!
It's a decent place to go, "Free wood" means bring a chain saw, gotta cut it and haul it yourself but hey it's free. Unfortunately didn't know this until we got here and had nothing to cut the wood with. Bathrooms are 2 steps up from a Porta potty, but there is no one on-site, camp host spot looks like it hasn't been occupied in months. City parks and rec rolled through this morning and "cleaned" the rest rooms I thought, 1 of the toilets were clogged by another camper and not usable. Otherwise it's a pleasant quiet place to go right on the lake.
Beautiful campground!! Quiet! Bathrooms are wonderful, the only issue was all the water on the floor! The campsites are big and spacious. Docks everywhere. Playground is nice. Staples is a short 6 minute drive away for anything you may have forgot or for live bait!
Great spot to camp, right off the highway but peaceful. Small swimming area for the kids, playground as well Plenty of cut wood to burn was so nice as we had a fire going all weekend
