- Positive Review: "Absolutely the most beautiful campsite! It is first-come-first-serve as far as your site options go. Get there early and if you’re the first person there and no one else is already camping, I’d suggest choosing site 1! It is by itself and huge, right by the river with an amazing view, close to the restrooms and there is a sweet squirrel there who likes to sunbathe on the river rocks. The best of everything. We loved our stay this week and will be back one day. It is such an amazing site all around and close to Yosemite with a bit of distance so you’re not surrounded by other people. So great!!"
- Mixed Review: "We booked 6 months in advance... Unfortunately, we had a negative experience when we were late arriving and our reservation was given to someone else without a refund. This was disappointing, but the beautiful location and natural surroundings make it worth considering if you plan carefully."
Whether you're a seasoned camper or new to outdoor adventures, Dry Gulch Campground offers an unforgettable experience in one of California's most scenic areas.

We booked 6 months in advanced to camp here and confirmed 3 separate times before we got there. We had the spot paid for an reserved for 3 nights. We were late getting in by a day, and tried to call them prior to our arrival with no reply. We tried to check in and they gave our spot away!!!! At first we thought no big deal the people just didn't know but when we talked to them, they had a hand written camping pass FOR OUR SITE. We threw a fit with the camp host and they said sorry you did not check in on time. They refused to refund our money which was super dishonest of them. Their job is to max out the campsites every night so if you are late, don't bother.
I reserved a site on recreation.gov in June for my trip to Yosemite in October. Got to the campground to find a sign saying the campground is closed for the season and reopens in May. No host, bathrooms locked, and water spigot turned off. I'm all for primitive camping but prefer to be aware of what I'm getting into. Also it felt a little unsafe at first- not knowing the area and given the out of the way location and the lack of a host. We drove up to Yosemite but by then all the other campgrounds were full. People would show up and camp for free without reservations. It could have really messed up my otherwise well-planned trip had all four of the sites been claimed by squatters. Still haven't been able to find anywhere online or otherwise that would have hinted the site would be closed. My advice: in the off season camp for free and you'll have a 5 star experience. I, on the other hand, will be looking to see if I can get a refund. Update: A week or so after we returned home from our trip I received an email stating that the campground had closed from October until May 2019 due to flash flooding concerns, and all reservations were refunded. Thanks for letting us know before our trip, recreation.gov...
I did not stay here, despite holding a reservation. It was a 110 degree day and I was traveling with a pregnant wife, so camping was not an option. The spot however was lovely, close to Yosemite and absolutely devoid of people. I presume it would have been a great place to camp. The host was very friendly and recommended us a hotel closeby that would not price gouge us because of the heat.
Beautiful area, however bears have become a problem and are eating out of dumpster every night with tents down below. As parking is above no way to get to your car when they come. Host was fantastic but scared and garbage needs to be repaired.
