Very nice, safe, small campground. Not overcrowded. Quiet neighbors. We liked mini golf, dunes, small lake. Clean bathrooms but showers could be updated. Easy check in and check out. Love the gate. Close to Michigan lake but a little too close to the highway.
Happy with our stay and will definitely come back again in the near future. However, the shower drainage system could use some improvement. Overall, very satisfied with this campground. Love that it is small, has lots of trees, has a cute mini lake for swimming, also just 5min away from Lake Michigan, and most of all..the place is quiet. A nice place to relax and get away from the hustle bustle of big city living.
Such a cute little campground with a nature preserve with 8 miles of hiking trails across the road. The bathrooms were clean, and the service was great. There is also a 9 hole mini golf course that we enjoyed.
We spent 3 nights here in August 2024, it was our first visit as our usual places were all booked up. I will share our honest review and I hope the owners will take time to consider our opinions, as it seems in previous reviews that weren’t perfect they offered a response that glosses over the guests concerns. Pros: Our kids really enjoyed themselves and said everything was good-other than the spiders in the bathroom-which we as adults recognize is often just part of camping. It was a good place to make family memories and we really enjoyed our time as a family. We loved that it was woodsy-it feels like so many campgrounds now are just giant parking lots and this one was nice and woodsy which provided shade, wildlife to view and wonderful nature sounds to fall asleep to. The view around the pond was gorgeous-it had a very “up north” feel about it. It felt secure to let our kids ride their bikes around and have a little freedom. The bathrooms were cleaned regularly. We LOVED the dunes but that leads right into our cons list. Cons: The dunes are on the campground map making it seem that they are a part of the campground. There are no markings to indicate otherwise. My family spent an hour or so hiking around and playing in the sand, there were many other families from the campground doing the same as us. When all of the sudden a man pulls up on a four wheeler swearing at us that we are on private property and told us he had ran some other kids off. He was very upset that the campers were on the dunes when it seemed to be part of the campground to us, as well as many other campers. We spent some time looking up property lines and it seems the campgrounds own a small portion of the dunes but the rest is in fact private property. This should be marked. It was not a pleasant way to end our time there to have some random man swearing and yelling at us in front of our kids while we literally just relaxed in the sand. Signs marking the boundary are essential! The pond is just that, a pond, it’s not a lake as the name implies. It was fairly unappealing as a swimming area to us as we don’t prefer to swim in ponds, it appeared to be kept up but we felt a bit deceived because it’s called Dune Lake. If you’re not opposed to swimming in a pond it’s fine so that won’t be a con for everyone. The bathrooms were very outdated and did NOT meet ADA standards I’m honestly surprised they aren’t advertising that they are not handicap friendly. My daughter has an ankle injury and bathroom breaks were a HUGE challenge. I appreciate the effort of the contactless entry but it feels very cold and unwelcoming. We’ve never stayed at a campground where we weren’t welcomed and/or offered a packet of information. Someone to make sure you understood the map and where your site was, where the garbage cans are. Someone to tell you they put dye in the pond for algae and that there’s a paddle boat for anyone to use, if the golf coarse is free to use, how to access the trails that we never did find, and someone to share the boundaries of the dunes. We did see the owners and they were friendly but not overly friendly-didn’t check in at all or offer anything. You can’t bring your own firewood and we spent $50+ on enough wood for three nights which is way too high! It’s marketed as a family campground and there were kids and a playground (that was pretty run down) but the rules that make it family friendly weren’t enforced. Ie quiet times. The last night we were there people were partying and peeing in the woods behind our camper until well past midnight and we were woke up at 5:30 by another site slamming their stuff around packing up to leave. Also our neighboring site had a dog that was not leashed and it approached our van and when my husband shooed it away it growled at him. The rules of quiet time and leashes made us feel comfortable to have our families there but the rules not being enforced were frustrating to us. Overall my wife and I would not choose to return however our kids did enjoy it and if they asked we would return.
