We had part of our honey moon here, it was incredible and Chris was such a great guide and host. The safari tent was exactly what we expected and had the perfect view of the dunes and mountains. We stopped for groceries on our way from Denver, the outdoor kitchen/bbq area had everything we needed for our typical camp meals. We did a guided tour with Chris to the Dunes and he made the experience so much better than had we wandered around on our own. Such a fun experience, hope to go back soon!
Can't say enough positive things about Dunes Desert Camp and its host, Chris. The property itself is picturesque, looking out onto the sand dunes with the snow-capped mountains beyond. The tent with the opening and bed facing out to this, and being woken up by the sunrise coming over those mountains, is just something you can't capture unless you've been there. The bed in the tent was something you imagine from magazines, putting the glamorous in glamping. Chris prepared excellent meals for us with special touches from local places as well as his vast travels. He was also instrumental in making the trek up the dunes enjoyable and even possible (hey! It's a hard transition from 47' ASL to 7,500'+ ASL!). He also took us on Medano Pass Trail in his personal Jeep. More than just the stuff he did, Chris was just a great guy to be around, talk to, and get to know. He had some wonderful tales of adventure through his years that we were keen on hearing. We did not stay here but we had a Jeep 4x4 tour of sand dunes National Park with Chris. It's certainly made a huge difference to our ability to enjoy the parts of the park we couldn't get to. Very glad we hired him!
An experience of a lifetime! Chris was an excellent host and guide. He gave us a fantastic tour of the Great Sand Dunes National Park that we wouldn’t have been able to navigate on our own. Back at the camp we were able to relax and unwind with breathtaking views of the San Luis Valley.
My 4-day wellness retreat at Dunes Dessert Camp was beyond magical. The guided hikes to waterfalls, dunes, and hot springs were wonderfully refreshing - not to mention the breath work by the water! The team is not only experienced but incredibly warm and welcoming. Even in rain, the desert and mountain views were breathtaking, culminating in an unforgettable double rainbow. I was impressed by the array of dishes prepared onsite. The facilities were excellent and the campfire evenings were lovely. I felt safe and embraced by nature and the exceptional team throughout. Highly recommend!
