EAA Camp Scholler Introduce

Welcome to EAA Camp Scholler, a distinctive offering within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, primarily known for hosting attendees of the annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, a world-renowned aviation event held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Unlike typical campgrounds focused solely on nature or recreation, Camp Scholler provides a unique camping experience deeply intertwined with the spirit of aviation and the vibrant community of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). This introduction will detail the environment, services, and features of Camp Scholler, specifically in the context of its role during AirVenture.

The Environment: An Aviation Enthusiast's Hub

The environment of EAA Camp Scholler is best described as a large, temporary community that springs to life each year in conjunction with AirVenture. It's characterized by a bustling atmosphere filled with fellow aviation enthusiasts from around the globe. The landscape is primarily open fields, accommodating thousands of tents and RVs. While it may not offer the secluded natural beauty of a traditional campground, its unique appeal lies in the shared passion for aviation that permeates the entire area. You'll find aircraft parked alongside campsites, impromptu gatherings of pilots and builders, and a constant buzz of excitement related to the air show and aviation activities.

The location adjacent to Wittman Regional Airport, the site of AirVenture, makes Camp Scholler incredibly convenient for accessing the event. Throughout the week of AirVenture, the air above and around the campground is alive with the sights and sounds of aircraft of all types, from vintage biplanes to modern jets and homebuilt experimental aircraft. This immersive aviation environment is what draws many attendees to camp at Scholler year after year.

Services: Designed for AirVenture Attendees

EAA Camp Scholler offers a range of services tailored to the needs of AirVenture attendees:

  • Campsite Options: Both tent camping areas and RV camping areas are available. RV sites can vary, with some offering electric hookups (availability and type can differ each year). Water filling and dump stations are typically provided for RVs.
  • Restroom and Shower Facilities: Portable restrooms and shower trailers are set up throughout the campground to accommodate the large number of campers. While they are temporary, efforts are made to keep them clean and accessible.
  • Transportation within the Grounds: Given the size of Camp Scholler, shuttle services often operate within the campground to help campers get around.
  • Security and Support: EAA provides security personnel and volunteer staff to assist campers and ensure a safe environment. There are also information booths and first aid stations located within the campground.
  • Food and Beverage Options: While campers often bring their own food, there are usually food vendors located within or near Camp Scholler offering a variety of options.
  • Basic Supplies: Some basic camping supplies might be available for purchase on-site.

It's important to note that the services are primarily geared towards the temporary nature of the camp during AirVenture, and the scale is significant due to the large number of attendees.

Features: Immersive Aviation and Community Spirit

The standout feature of EAA Camp Scholler is its direct connection to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. Staying at Scholler places you right at the heart of the event, with easy access to all the air show activities, forums, workshops, and exhibits. Additional features include:

  • Aircraft Parking: A unique aspect is the ability for those flying in their own aircraft to camp with their planes in designated areas adjacent to the runways.
  • Community Atmosphere: Camp Scholler fosters a strong sense of community among aviation enthusiasts. It's a place to meet people from all walks of life who share a passion for flight.
  • Proximity to Activities: Being on-site eliminates the need for daily commuting to and from the AirVenture grounds, allowing campers more time to enjoy the event.
  • Evening Programs: Often, there are evening activities and gatherings within Camp Scholler, further enhancing the community feel.

While it may lack the natural amenities of a traditional campground, the unique features of Camp Scholler make it an unparalleled experience for aviation lovers.

The Air Show was great. The Navy Growlers were the highlights in addition to watching (Patty), a 73 year old woman doing crazy pilot stuff. I knew the food was going to be overpriced. But I expected it to be at least average quality. Paying $22 for 2 cold burgers just doesn't cut it. If you decide to leave early and you are not camping, expect a long walk back to your car. They had shuttle service, but all of them were destined for the campgrounds.

Excellent camping spot! They had showers and flushable toilets! Given the weather insane amount of people there, everything was always clean and never crowded! You could see the air show from the camp site! Just a great experience overall!

As if the biggest fly in air show in the country isn’t enough, camping at Camp Scholler makes it twice the experience. I come early and stay late every year. Clean, fun, endless entertainment, and very reasonable prices.

Wonderful stay! They did a great job keeping the bathrooms clean and stocked considering the extreme numbers of people coming in and out each day! Even the portapots beat pretty much every other event I've ever been to! You do have to get there the Saturday before Airventure starts to ensure an easily found spot, but squeezing in on Sunday is possible, and as the week goes on more spots open up, but it is a search. Watch out for marked out campsites, some people try to section out space for their friends.

Organized chaos to get in during the show, but the staff handled it very well. It was great being right near the airshow. They could use more dump station, water fill station spots. Showers were group showers with hand held nozzles, which are rustic. Porta potties were fairly clean considering the huge crowd. Laundry was meh, spin cycle didn't work well so things took a long time to dry. Bus service was awesome. All the campers were friendly. Definitely a great experience for our whole family.
