I loved the big swing. I liked and then also what would make it better: for example that there was an indoor pool with an accessible entry, and enough life jackets for anyone who needed one, BUT that the staff insisted on me wearing one that wasn’t the style I would usually wear and as a result I didn’t feel as comfortable in the pool. Or that there was assigned times to use the pool, but that the counsellors failed to consider the extra time needed for me to shower afterwards, and that not showering properly can cause extra discomfort after such that it made me not want to swim the next time. it was great to connect with new people at camp, but it would have been even better to be matched in a buddy group with someone with similar needs, so that the things that during the things I couldn’t or didn’t do, I would liked a buddy to talk with that would also likely not be doing that or would be needing to wait for a different time such as with the big swing/rock wall. I found it hard to connect with my buddy group, as the seemed to have more cognitive disabilities, and being in a more mixed group with at least someone closer to my level in that regard (a peer to connect with) would have been great.

This is the greatest camp. They have a family camp as well as a camp for children and a separate camp for adults up to age 49. They were truly wonderful with my child and went above and beyond to ensure my child had a great experience. They had a ton of great activities and experiences. From a water day, ( the pool was closed for repairs but that didn't stop the fun.) to arts and crafts, amazing meals, a trampoline built into the ground, On the last night they had a banquet they dressed up for and a dance. As well they had nurses and medical staff there 24 hours a day for those who needed it. The camp counselors were so nice and helpful. Wonderful experience. We will be back. 🙂

So I haven’t been there in a long time! Ten years! And I still had lots of fun! I hope I can come back next year!

My favorite place on Earth. A camp for kids and young adults with physical and/or intellectual disabilities, fully capable of supporting all their needs including having low camper-counsellor ratios, nurses onsite 24/7 and equipment to adapt activities to all ability levels.
