We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Perfect weather didn't hurt. Tina at the front desk (and working in many other aspects of the lodge) was the most helpful hotel employee we have ever had in our 40+ years of traveling. Felt like a friend while we were there. Room was comfortable and a great value. Also very much appreciated the quality of the food in the restaurant - we have stayed in other isolated places that know they have a captive audience, so they don't really bother much - but the quality, quantity and fair pricing of the meals were outstanding. The park by itself only offers a 2-mile loop for hiking, but was enough for our one full day there. Connected to other longer thru-hiking trails for more serious hikers. The surrounding country is beautiful and undeveloped, thanks to a coalition of Federal, state and private conservation areas. RV/ trailer campground is basically a leveled off treeless parking lot, so we would not utilize that if camping, but we would definitely return for the lodge and friendly, courteous and helpful staff.
Great park well worth a visit. We camped here for 5 days and loved it, we will be back! The wild horses just meandering through the park is a really nice surprise we didn’t know about. Everything is new and nice, all the sites are level also.
My son and I have been coming here since 2016. The first few years were perfect. Clean, great staff, etc. The last 2 visits have been less than ideal. Last year 2023 the bed was not cleaned, I found socks and leaves inside. The blankets had dog hair all over them. This year the water didn’t work for several hours and there were lady bugs dead and alive everywhere. There was a used shampoo bottle on the shower and tons of spider webs and chips under the kitchen table, on top of that there was a bottle of coke under a side table. I have tried to tell the front desk and when I do they seem annoyed. I’ve ask for a possible discount and they said they can’t. I paid 645 dollars to stay for 3 nights and I find it hard to believe they cannot even try to remedy the problem. I thought about leaving a review last year but I didn’t want to slow down their business but I’m tired of not receiving the service a customer should receive.
The location is absolutely beautiful. If you enjoy nature, this is the place to visit. The lodge is nice, the rooms are comfortable however some of the furniture has seen better days. We enjoyed the deck however people were smoking below us and we had to go inside to escape the cigarette smoke, this happened everyday we stayed. The dining facility is okay, breakfast was the best. I ordered a dinner salad and a third of the salad was croutons a third was dressing and the last third was lettuce; my husband’s fish was over fried and he couldn’t eat it. If you want to pay with cash, bring small bills. For the amount we paid we expected a little better.
Incredible view in October. Wonderful staff. The cabin I was in was very nice. Bed was pretty comfortable.
