Awesome group site! Surrounded by beautiful eucalyptus trees on every side. In the middle it is open for star gazing- we saw several shooting stars! Plenty of space for parking, cleanest vault toilet ever- didn’t even smell! The picnic tables are fixed and there was an ant nest under the prep table, and it was very private from the other sites. Tent areas are split between the very back or the very front, with picnic table area and large bbq in center. There is no food locker. There’s 3 garbage cans with lids and one recycle bin for cans and glass. During the daytime- plenty of sun, there is one corner of shade where some 12ish of us hung out. Kids saw turkeys and lizards. We saw a herd of hundreds of goats trimming the grass which was super fun for the kids! The gate to the group sites is always locked. You receive entry code a few days before your reserved date. The Towhee trail and columbine trail were closed, so we had to walk all the way to the entry kiosk to hop on a trial to get to the lake, about 2 miles. Weather was perfect in Aug, with light breezes.

Trashcans. Clean toilets. Fire pit. Abundant parking. A friend had a going away party and just set things up on the picnic tables and folks stopped by when they could. It was convenient, fun and the best part of camping in the backyard combined with the best parts of visiting the wilder corners of Chabot Park. Can't recommend it highly enough, just remember that fires may be forbidden during fire season. It is after all just a grove of eucalyptus trees.
