We have been multiple times and we highly recommend staying here! Beautiful scenery😃 Hiking and fishing available at Emerald Lake. $8 per day for fishing at Emerald Lake. $22 per day to camp at Elbert Creek Campground. Vault toilets are available. Many campsites are on the creek. Plenty of shade available. You can hike the two tallest 14ers near this campground!

I would rate it the best campground I ever stayed in. Huge sites. The camp is by the mountain river. It is first come first serve. Turnaround is high as people mostly use it for just one night before scaling Mt. Elbert, so there is always sites available during week days. By weekend it gets tougher. Stayed there 5 days, scaled Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Camping is basic. It has one vault restroom and no running water (pump was not functioning), no showers. Having the river next to the tent solves the water issue.

We camped here for 4 days. This is a great place to camp if you are going to hike Mt.Elbert and Mt. Massive. Camp is right next to trail head. This camp has vault toilet and is very clean. This place is good for families and kids also. Out place was the first one on the left once you enter the campsite. It was kind of close to halfmoon Rd. There were quite a few ATVs driven on this road during late night and early mornings which disturbed the sleep. If possible, get a campsite on creek side instead of halfmoon road side.

This was beyond amazing we found the best spot on a dead end road so no camping neighbors.

The only differences between the forest and the campground is whether you have to bring your own picknick table and water. We stayed for 2 nights at the Elbert creek campground to hike Mt Elbert. Pros: - Campground is next to the trailhead, which is busily trafficked already in the early morning (~3:00am). Being able to just hike towards the trailhead without any parking problems is nice. - There is water available. - Bathrooms are clean enough. Cons: - There was a lot of noise. A lot a lot. Not only are you as close to the busy main road as all the dispersed sites (and thus, can count the cars passing by starting around midnight), there were several parties at the campground. - Basic rules appear not to be checked. Our neighbours occupied a single spot with a total of 10 trucks, 2 RVs, 10 continuously barking dogs and 20-30(?) people, of which you can imagine the result … In conclusion, although I have mixed experiences with dispersed camping and thus mostly prefer an USFS campground, I would definitely recommend to find a nice spot in the forest instead of paying 22$ a night to camp in this zoo.
