Awesome for hiking, lots of campsites also. Went in for hunting season first year here, amazing areas you can find while hiking.
Just went backpacking here and it was breathtakingly beautiful. Friendly people. Gorgeous views. The trails are well maintained, no garbage. The lakes are absolutely beautiful as well. The incline was easy, but it was the elevation that made it difficult. Very rocky so bring your trekking poles as almost everyone we saw on the trail had a pair. Sun is STRONG up there so make sure you bring your hat and sun protection. Also, make sure you bring some sort of bug repellant, and a bug jacket. I got bit so many times by bugs (either mosquitos or flies). I was so itchy from the welts upon coming home because we forgot to bring ours.
Great Day Skiing at Heavenly which is part of the Eldorado National Forrest. What a great way to enjoy the outdoors.
Eldorado National Forest is huge and offers a lot of different hikes within. We hiked Twin lakes and it was easily a 7 mile adventure. We saw a few waterfalls and marmots along the way. The terrain is rocky with frozen snow still on some of the faces of the rocks. The water was clear and refreshing from the waterfalls. My ankles and knees feel it today.
What forest? El Dorado national Forest is almost non existent with caldor fire and mastication, now the removal of old growth trees in the name of "progress". Save some forest for future generations of Flora, fauna, and people alike!! Before and after pics posted. An atrocity to nature. Save ecology folks.
