For Oregonians seeking a peaceful, authentic, and slightly off-the-beaten-path camping experience, Elk Creek Campground near Unity offers a truly charming retreat. Tucked away within the natural beauty of Eastern Oregon, this quaint little campground is a hidden gem for those who appreciate the quiet murmur of a creek and the comforting presence of towering pines. It’s a place where you can truly unplug and reconnect with nature, far from the crowds of more popular destinations. As one happy camper shared, it's a "quaint little campground situated amongst lots of pine and ELK CREEK nearby," making it a delightful spot to hear "the creek at night beautifully!" For locals looking for a serene getaway that embodies the wild heart of Oregon, Elk Creek Campground is a definite contender.
Elk Creek Campground is located in Unity, OR 97884, USA. This places it within the vast expanse of the Malheur National Forest in Eastern Oregon, an area known for its rugged mountains, vast forests, and high desert landscapes. For Oregon residents, accessing this campground involves a scenic drive that takes you away from the major urban centers and into the heart of the state's less-traveled, but equally beautiful, interior. The campground is situated west of Unity, and can be accessed via well-maintained forest service roads that branch off from main highways like US-26 or OR-245. While precise directions might vary based on your starting point, generally from Unity, you would head west into the forest. One review mentions its proximity to "the road nearby," indicating it's not entirely isolated but still manages to be "quiet despite the road." It’s a drive that immerses you in the characteristic beauty of Eastern Oregon, with its ponderosa pine forests and open vistas. Given its location in a national forest, it's always wise for locals to consult a detailed forest map and consider downloading offline maps, as cell service can be spotty in these remote areas. This preparation ensures a smooth and enjoyable journey to this peaceful Oregon camping spot.

This is a quaint little campground situated amongst lots of pine and ELK CREEK nearby with small to shallow pools. You can hear the creek at night beautifully! Lots of dead fall. Easy firewood pickings but be sure to check for the fire restrictions before you start one in your fire ring. Very beautiful area. Quiet despite the road nearby. :) We liked it for sure and maybe will revisit.
I absolutely love this small random little campsite that's off the beaten path. It has 5 spots and 4 great spots right by the stream. It also has 2 bathrooms although 1 is missing a door. I've heard they are planning on closing this spot. But I hope not.
Sorry mom! I had to disobey again to tell about this campground! I spent 14 days here with my family last summer, and oh boy was it fun. Campsite was wonderful, even though it wasn't a real site anymore. There is a beautiful creek where me and my cousin played all day! Amazing ATV trails as well. Not far from Unity, the closest town, or John day! Would definitely recommend.
awesome spot to cool down when its hot, we placed lawn chairs in the creek and drank cold beer. Don't worry, we put our trash in bags not like others who were there. Small trout in stream, we saw a garter snake eating a small brook trout! Very cool! Great spot to ride dirt bikes and atv's.
Love the area and cool breeze. The creek is beautiful and seen some deer
