A stunning location in the middle of the Adirondack wilderness. It’s like summer camp for adults. The rooms certainly suited the location. The road in is six miles of gravel, so leave your race car at home. Food was OK. We were expecting better for what we paid. The price though includes numerous amenities typical of a camp, not a hotel.
Don't get me wrong the rooms were great they were recently renovated and perfectly acceptable. Just don't want anybody to think they're checking into a luxury suite cause you're not. But it is spotless comfortable and perfect for the location. If you're looking for a laid back place to relax and truly enjoy nature this is it. Don't go if you're looking for a huge activities list as your day will be filled with relaxing on the porch reading maybe a kayak around the lake and a dip in the swimming area. Oh and lest I forget some of the best hiking you'll find in the Adirondacks. The restaurant is fabulous and so well run they have a great understanding of their capabilities. Breakfast is made to order at which time you select your entree for the evening meal. At dinner you order your bag lunch which is waiting for you at breakfast. And lastly you will not find a more competent or friendly staff.
Elk Lake Lodge was great - the perfect base to hike the Dix Range and have everything taken care of for you! My wife and I wanted to do the Dix Range in one go, and we knew it would be a long day for us. Staying at Elk Lake Lodge was perfect, you're essentially at the trailhead, no driving, no parking. The staff arranged to have our breakfast and lunch early for us so we could get out there. When we arrived back late (nearly 9pm) after a long day, the staff was grateful we made it back safely and immediately got to work preparing our dinner, after the kitchen and dining room had clearly been cleaned from the day's service. They were beyond friendly. The food was good, the cabin was great, the scenery is great. Saturday night, a local band came in to play after dinner that added to the ambiance. Can't wait to come back!
For the past 20 years, my wife and I have enjoyed driving up to Elk Lake Lodge in the late summer or early fall, as an escape from the frenetic activity at home in suburban NJ. Experiencing the serenity of the Adirondacks annually is a healthy tonic to one’s busy and hectic work and family obligations. As a couple, we chose to stay in either Little Tom or Cornelia cabins, as our secluded basic, yet comfortable accommodations with expansive views of Elk Lake. Watching the spectacular, slowly evolving sun/shadows composition along the distant mountains is mesmerizing. We bring our hiking, canoeing and kayaking gear and attire as part of our desired outdoor recreational exercise in the beautiful surrounding peaks of Mt. Dix/Nipple Top/Sunrise Mountain. We have been continually amazed at experiencing the engulfing silence, while paddling out on the lake or hiking. That alone is a very refreshing respite from the typical constant annoying cacophony of sounds in both urban and suburban settings. The breakfast and dinner meals are appetizing traditional American cuisine, with basic bag lunches to take with you for your daily travels, after breakfast in the main Lodge. We also bring our preferred wine (BYOB), for dinners. Tip: our contentment is enhanced by our having brought along a bottle of a special aged single malt scotch for cocktails, enjoyed while sitting in an Adirondack Chair on our porch or inside by the fireplace, while reading a good book and listening to the sounds of Loon mating calls on Elk Lake. The staff have worked hard to ensure that all guests are most satisfied during their stay. The owners make an constant effort to perform annual upgrades to the cabins, lodge, lake-side dock and accessories utilized by guests. We truly appreciate the serene and quiet tranquility that an Elk Lake Lodge experience affords all guests. Elk Lake Lodge is a very special jewel nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, for which we are very grateful for and can recommend highly.
A window back in time. Trails are lush and lightly traveled. Lake provides plenty of solitude with amazing scenery! A perfect place to plan a stay and settle into relaxation.
