Elkamp Introduce
Elkamp, formerly known as Eastcreek Campground, is a distinguished destination in the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category, located in Mineral, Washington, at the foothills of the majestic Mount Rainier. This privately operated campground prides itself on "elevating the art of camping," offering a blend of natural beauty, modern amenities, and a commitment to providing a comfortable and enriching outdoor experience. Situated a short distance from the Nisqually Gate, the only year-round entrance to Mount Rainier National Park, Elkamp serves as an ideal basecamp for exploring one of America's most iconic national treasures, while providing a serene retreat in its own right.
The environment at Elkamp is a significant part of its appeal. The campground is nestled among a "cathedral of trees," characterized by a towering old-growth forest that creates a serene and shaded atmosphere. This lush, verdant setting gives campers the feeling of being deeply immersed in a Pacific Northwest rainforest, with moss and ferns abundant. The property is bisected by a sparkling, year-round creek, which originates high in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and flows through the campground, adding a tranquil soundtrack to the natural surroundings and providing opportunities for creek stomping and exploration. Reviewers often describe the setting as feeling "secluded and quiet," like camping in a rainforest, despite its accessibility. The internal roads and sites are graveled, helping to minimize dust and maintain the pristine feel of the grounds.
Elkamp's strategic location is a major environmental advantage. It's approximately a 15-minute drive from the Nisqually Gate of Mount Rainier National Park, allowing easy access to the park's diverse landscapes, including subalpine meadows, glaciers, and hiking trails. Beyond the national park, the surrounding region offers a plethora of natural attractions, including Mineral Lake for seasonal fishing and swimming, and the Bud Blancher Trailhead to Mashel Falls. The campground's position provides a perfect balance: the intimacy of a forested retreat within easy reach of grand mountain vistas and extensive outdoor recreation opportunities.
Elkamp stands out within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category for its commitment to providing well-maintained services that enhance the camping experience. It offers a variety of site types to cater to different preferences, including spacious RV sites with 30 and 50 AMP power and fresh water hookups, as well as primitive tent sites for those who prefer a more rustic approach. Each campsite, whether with hookups or primitive, includes a private fire ring and a picnic table, encouraging traditional campfire gatherings.
A key service highly praised by visitors is the access to clean, heated bathrooms and showers, which are often described as newly renovated and exceptionally well-maintained. This amenity significantly elevates the comfort level compared to many other campgrounds. While some reviews indicate there may not be sewer hookups at every site, a dump station is available on-site, sometimes mentioned as being conveniently located for arrival. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also provided, though its strength can vary in outlying sites due to the heavily wooded environment. The campground also features a general store, often described as "cute" and well-stocked with camping necessities, food, and souvenirs, catering to immediate needs. The staff and owners are frequently lauded in reviews for their friendliness and attentiveness, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash and not left unattended, ensuring a pleasant experience for all guests.
Elkamp distinguishes itself with a range of features designed to enhance guest comfort and outdoor engagement. Beyond traditional RV and tent sites, Elkamp offers unique glamping accommodations, including well-appointed cabins and a deluxe, furnished Airstream trailer. The Airstream, for instance, provides a luxurious camping experience with amenities like two TVs with Apple TV (streaming services require personal accounts), a built-in sound system, a kitchen, and air conditioning. These options cater to those seeking a higher level of comfort and convenience while still enjoying the natural surroundings.
The campground boasts an "ever-expanding trail system" that traverses its unique wetlands, forests, and riparian habitats, providing hours of exploration without even leaving the property. This on-site trail network is a significant feature for casual strolls, meditation paths in the meadow, or even "creek stomping" to swimming holes. A walking bridge over the creek separates some of the camping areas from a large field, which is often used for dog runs and a kids' play area, demonstrating a family-friendly and pet-welcoming approach. Other activities mentioned include yard games and community spaces.
Its proximity to Mount Rainier National Park means guests have direct access to world-class hiking, climbing, cycling (on park roads), and in winter, opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Elkamp's location is also convenient for other regional attractions such as the Mount Rainier Railroad (offering rail cycle tours), Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, and local breweries and cider mills, providing diverse entertainment options beyond the immediate campground.
Elkamp actively promotes itself as an "award-winning campground," recognized in 2022 by industry leaders as one of the "Top campgrounds in the US" and for "Top Design" by Campspot Awards. This recognition underscores its commitment to quality and guest satisfaction. The campground emphasizes its mission to "elevate the art of camping," promising guests a "year-round cozy and comfortable camping resort."
Booking reservations are accepted online, and it's highly recommended to book direct through their website or via platforms like Campspot, especially given its popularity and accolades. The website often highlights its convenient location as "a short drive from Seattle Washington or Portland Oregon," making it an accessible getaway for regional travelers. Promotional messages often highlight the tranquility and seclusion of the forested setting, coupled with the ease of access to Mount Rainier and other area attractions.
They clearly communicate policies regarding check-in/check-out times, pet rules, and important "need to know" information such as food storage regulations due to local wildlife (bears and other animals frequent the area). Burn bans are also a possibility, and campers are expected to comply. While Wi-Fi is advertised, it's prudent for campers to manage expectations regarding strong connectivity in all areas. Elkamp positions itself as the perfect home base for a Western Cascade and Mount Rainier getaway, inviting visitors to "retreat and commune with nature time and again." Early booking is generally advised, particularly for peak seasons, to secure a spot at this highly-regarded camping destination.

Customer Reviews
This place is so cute and cozy! The service was stellar, everything was so we'll groomed, and the bathrooms and shower were so nice! There spots are great for tent camping (that was what I did) and there is a wide open field for relaxing with chairs for reading or what suites you. There was even some small trails across the creek where you can get down to the water and splash around So fun and we will be back next year!
Beautiful camp site! You’re surrounded by greenery and feels like you’re camping in the middle of a forest. Also only 25 minutes to the Nisqually entrance for Mount Rainier. Owners are super nice. There’s a nice field behind the campsite where you can take dogs for a walk through some paths cut into the field. Will mention though, there is no dump sites, no laundry, and showers are pay to use which is a bit of a bummer. You just have to be careful with water use if you don’t want to hook up and drive to dump your tanks. Would stay again though!
The only reason I'm leaving this review is because I needed to do something nice for humanity today. Elkamp is my favorite private camping destination, hands down. The grounds are so well maintained and what I can only describe as a labor of love by Tom and Brian. This place is an oasis that you will never want to leave. You're tucked under Mt Rainier and nestled at the edge of tall, dense trees that open up to a meadow right on the other side of Eastcreek. I dream about this place all winter long. The campground bathrooms are clean, and you can fill your propane tanks on site. Their shop is just the coolest, and the positive puppy vibe is immaculate. #Book2026Now!
So, they charge quite a high price. There are not full hookups at the sites, and they do not provide a dump station, so you have to haul your grey/black water home. There are no extras like a pool, horseshoes or anything else that would command the price per night. There are strict rules and everything has a fine attached to it. Showers are way more expensive than they should be for the price. The owners are pleasant. That said, be prepared to pay and not get much in return.
Wonderful little private campground. Well taken care of. Great owner. Would come back again! Excited for the coffee cart to get running.
