This is a family run small business, so adjust your expectations accordingly. There are ongoing maintenance and improvements but at a casual pace, and a genuine care for their guests. We came here with my sister who had been before, but I was nervous since there was very little information online, so I tried to compile a comprehensive list of what to expect, but you can also expect change. My notes are not for the seasonal sites (which are more treed, private, quiet and varied). -Reservations are awful. Sister called four separate occasions to ENSURE we were booked, and on arrival we were moved from the site booked anyways. Sister said you never know who you get on the phone, if they put your info in the book, or take a message for someone else to do it, or forget to write it down at all. -The sites are fairly thin but varying in length; each have a few young trees, picnic table and fire pit and both appeared portable in every site so you could move them if you need room. There is not much shade at all but they all angle so you have a view of kids at the playground. This also means you will hear children playing from sun up to sun down. Bring a white noise machine if needed. -Some sites have power, some you will need an extension cord to reach a few sites over to a box of several outlets. -Some sites have water, but not all. Yes, the water smells like sulfur, that’s not uncommon in rural Alberta. I saw some seasonal sites had their own in-line water filters, but be prepared if smells bother you. -There is a central washroom, showers and laundry. The men’s showers were pay use, the women’s showers were not built yet (NO LADIES SHOWERS). The laundry out back appeared functional but I did not look at the cost. -There is a large trash dumpster near the office to leave garbage in, as well as refundable recycling (proceeds go to money mountain). There were no trash cans throughout the campground itself. The playground was littered with kids trash. -The playground is expansive! Playhouse, slides, larger equipment, bridge with combine belt, tire swings, volleyball, tire tube snake, broken basketball net, but some equipment is in need of repair. One slide was coming apart at the seams, one tire swing was broken off the chain, the bridge boards were broken in spots and we found some screws protruding where kids could get cut. Set your expectations to 1988 and you’ll be fine. -In the playground area is a camp kitchen with picnic tables and power, I don’t know if you have to reserve it, the kids came and went in it. -MONEY MOUNTAIN. The draw for kids. The change from bottles and the concession gets tossed on to a sand mound on Saturday morning (and Sunday on our visit), then a bobcat piles all the sand up into a ‘mountain.’ The kids all dig for the buried treasure. It is sand, and there wasn’t much supervision, so expect sand in hair, clothes, eyes, everywhere. Even a few playground fights. -The office had a little concession with delicious ice cream, a decent selection of candy, smaller selection of chips, and scant s’mores and sunscreen but no necessities like TP. Great spot for the kids to come spend their money mountain finds, I expect that the other necessities would be there if the seasonal guests asked but they haven’t had a need. -The Little Red Deer River is just to the west, accessible from a couple paths through sites that lead to a trail down to it. There’s a long rock beach, little ‘rapids’ among some rock sandbars, and calm water to float in and deep enough to swim just downstream. You can drive up river to an easy spot to enter and float all the way down to the campground where it’s easy to disembark. -There is a dump station on site -There is no cell service at all. Spotty service up on the road and out to highway, I didn’t get good service until almost in Cremona. There is an emergency phone at the office that includes the address.

Great place for kids. The playground is big and have multiple swing, slide. There is a mountain of sand for the kids to go play. A beach volleyball court. The staff was friendly. Don't miss the deal on ice cream. I am giving a 4 star because the bathroom could be improve. First the water smell like sulfur. You know that rotten egg smell. The shower head is coming straight from above, if you don't want to wash your hair, it's kinda inconvenient. The toilet are too high, if you have children they will need help to get on, and unless you are 6 feet tall its uncomfortable. The bathroom was clean, actually really clean for a campground. I definitely recommend this campground, the valley scenery and the river was great. Some site have nice tree cover. Elkton valley campground we will be back.

My young kids and I stopped here randomly for a night on our travels towards up North, with barely any money too spare I had amazing hospitality from the owners. Being after the long weekend, I was able to choose my own site right by the playground, and my kids were able to benefit from a free ice cream from the older gentleman and the, "absolutely amazing, never seen anything like it before" playground ( as per my 4 year olds words) And there was a nice little water spot up the bank to splash in, I will absolutely stop here on any travels I do again and would recommend anyone with kids to stop here.
