Oh I love it here so much. It feels super remote but it's not really. It's so peaceful. Fellow campers are just lovely. If you want a nice place to Camp that's free..this is a good one!
Great spot to camp. Big open field with a great view of the stars at night. No actual hiking trails but you can easily walk the service roads and enjoy nature. Just bring orange during hunting season. The camp site is a no hunting zone but if your gonna wonder the service roads it's best to be seen.
Nice quiet campground. Not many spots but has running water and 2 outhouses that are maintained well. Very quiet in the middle of the woods but still less than 30 minutes from everyplace even Walmart. And it's free!! It is first come first serve as well...
We got to Elmwood in the spring. It's a beautiful, free campground! Has a 14 day max stay and no Reservations needed. Everything was starting to bloom... Wisteria Jasmine, azaleas and more flowers than you can possibly imagine! Everything is green here the wild life is amazing. Several places with water access and good fishing. The main park ranger around here is named Mike and he's a wonderful man. He's very helpful in helping us find places. Great place to walk, jog, bike. We got cell service here with ATT. There is a vault toilet and water spigots for drinking water. You come down a paved road and it ends in dirt, then there's a left turn and the road starts to look scary. Especially when you get to the right turn, but our 40 foot Class A Towing a Jeep Grand Cherokee made it fine without any issue at all. No low-hanging branche, just a 10 thumbs up experience here. Highly recommended!
Nice quiet place plenty of primitive sites running water and outhouses. We got a flat tire and to the campers for happy to help us. It's free so you can't beat that. Lots of firewood to forage down 1 of the side roads.
FREE CAMP SITES This place is... magical. I love being surrounded by all of the trees but during the warm months, you've go to stay aware of snakes, tics, and mosquitos, and at night, boars lol but it's super nice and relaxing here. No rowdy teens or anything since this area is under surveillance. Also, there is a 2 week, or 14 day, stay limit, and there are restrooms straight back towards the open field. The people in this area are friendly, just do the right things and keep the land clean. Another nearby campground is called Santee Coastal Reserve, which is nice too. The only thing is there is a 4 day stay limit, but there's a boat deck in the area for fishing and plenty of walking trails. The last camping spot around there is called Honey Hill. There is also a 2 week stay limit there with restrooms, but no water or trash receptacles. The rattlesnakes are heavy in that area, as are the boars, so always watch your surroundings. Hope this helps! #HappyLiving 🤙🏽
