I really wish I could give better ratings to state parks within Mississippi, yet they struggle to grasp the concept of being proactive at enticing folks to explore the outdoors. Beautiful park, especially for (1) Maitenanace employee who has experience in retail sales and not in taking care of a State Park. I give him a huge shout out for his dedication and the overall look of the grounds. Great boat launch area, plenty of picnic areas, but there could be soo much more done to make this a phenomenal experience right outside Tupelo MS. Get some volunteers or HS students that want to learn about lifeguarding, open a beach, put in some volleyball nets. Ballard park has a better pull in visitors than this park. Really hope the campgrounds open up soon. Water views from the campgrounds would be an enormous pull for some, as of right now, they are tucked in the woods.
Really great visit. We got there before they opened and met a few people that work there who showed us around a bit. It was really cool seeing the church and schoolhouse.
Very disappointed. Lake has always been difficult to access for bank fishing due to steep sides. Now that's it's reopened post tornado repairs there is no elderly or disabled access to the shore lines. Nice new pier and even a connecting bridge across the lake but no steps or ramps on either side to reach them.
Beautiful lake and campground very quiet and peaceful my husband and I have been going here for awhile now because it’s not too busy and I like to walk so it’s a great place until a park ranger pulls up on you and ask for your ID. For what reason I don’t know. I’ve been out there many times and this is the first time a park ranger pulled up on us acting like we was doing something wrong. I believe it was because we were BLACK.... I pay my taxes like everybody else and if it’s a “whites only” park they need to put a sign up this has ruined my experience there and will never be back. I hate that because it’s a beautiful park and lake.
