I would 100% stay here again. It's very quiet and off the beaten track. The 2 public restrooms are VERY well maintained. There's plenty of trees for shade and a few offload trails for RZR's, dirt bikes, ATV's, and the like.
Nice out of the way campground with great views.
Spent a night here last week. Campsites higher up the hill are in or near big rock formations. I filled my water jugs here, but the water was orangey-brown. I didn't drink any of it, but it didn't contaminate my water bottles on future fill-ups. So it may be potable, but just looks gross.
1. BRING YOUR OWN WATER!!! Forestry Service website says there is potable water at the campground; however, the water pump handle has been removed and it is wired shut. This could really cause a problem for those not bringing water with them as it's a heck of a long way to "anywhere"! 2. Esterbrook Campground is 30 miles from Douglas on a paved, then we'll maintained gravel road. 3. During our 2 day stay it was very quiet and we had no problem getting a site without a reservation. 4. This review says lightly wooded, but it is really very wooded with cool rock formations in the campground 5. Even during July the weather is unpredictable - Shorts one minute and jacket when a quick thunderstorm rolled through. 6. Check-out is at 2:00 PM. 7. Sites are pretty level, no water, no dump stations, designed for "roughing it". Good AT trails closeby, that's just about it.
It was nice but pretty long drive to get to it. It was only us and one other camper.
