This place is great! We've been seasonal campers for 10 years and continue to love it! The owner has worked diligently to update the property and it shows! Camping rates continue to rise each year at every campground but these people continue to add value for your stay. It's the right distance from several major cities but still close enough to things that you need. Highly recommend!
One of the cleanest campgrounds we've been in IL. Lots of activities for both adults and kids. Pet friendly. Bands on weekends in the pavilion. Large swimming pool. Stocked fishing pond. Firetruck rides on Sunday morning.
The pool is nice. Activities for families. We've been there twice & unfortunately, there are some long-term campers who blast music at an obnoxious volume until 2am-3am. It felt like they were purposely trying to drive away short-term campers. The campsites are also quite close together. We prefer quiet & scenic state parks. We won't ever go back to Evening Star.
Management was very poor. Fishing was awful there pond is where carnival goldfish go to die. My family wanted to play in a bags tournament my significant other and my 14 year old son attempted to play in the tournament as the activity sheet implied we went up there to play my son was not eligible to play do to the fact it was money to play but in the building right next to the bag tournament a children can play bingo to win cash. The ground was very soft hard to put a camper in almost impossible took us nearly 3 hours to setup. The pool was underwhelming packed and full as expected but there was a couple in the deep end getting intimate infront of children. Not to mention if you have any guess joining you they must pay to swim while the people that are staying are 100% free. We spray paint chalked on a tree with nothing significant or offensive but then we're rudly asked to remove it without a reasoning. Tryna call grandma Judy good luck with that connection is about as good as going 100 ft under ground and calling someone. mini golf looks impressive but you know what they say looks can be deceiving. The indoor shop is basically useless unless you trying to cook muffins while camping. Almost any activity you would to participate was either a poor experience or you must pay. Charlie a family man is willing to help you with anything and everything and he will donate or let you borrow anything. But overall not a great experience do to the fact management is poor and no precautions to keep children eyes safe at the pool. Do not come here with the intention of catching fish I fished for probably 10 hours in a 4 day span and caught 4 bluegill and a single turtle. To wrap it all up don't let your kid get there hopes up to play in games unless they are of age. Dave no longer runs it said to see him go.
We had a wonderful time at the Halloween weekend event!! We will definitely be back!! Staff and grounds were perfect!!
