Customer Reviews
Nice peaceful wooded campground. Good lighting throughout the park. Small laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers. Could use some cleaning up. There is a change machine but it was out of quarters on a Sunday afternoon so I had to go across base to the commissary for quarters. While we were there back in April there was an RV that caught fire and burned up. But a week and a half later when we left it was still sitting there with the terrible smell of burnt metal and plastic etc. It was 2 sites down from us but they didn’t seem in any big hurry to get it out of there. Site #21 was ours. Nice base and surrounding town.
We have stayed here for several years. It is good stop on our route to Florida. Although the camp sites need work, and each time we stay it has never quite been completed, ie.the restrooms, other projects on agenda are held up from one reason or another. We have enjoyed staying here because of Tron (host in office) and any issues we have encountered , he can usually resolve to the best of his ability. Very pleasant, knowledgeable and easy going. We find surroundings quite relaxing and base very clean. Wayne &Bev Bowie (lot#20)
If you are on the waiting list for an RV site, it's not a list, it's a lottery. If you miss the call, you are out of luck and you don't move on the list. Nice campground on the base. A couple small points that they could improve on: 1) no spot number was given to us for our long term stay and so when we showed up during the weekend, we had to pick a random site. Now we have to move to another spot 24 hours after arriving. Packing up to move 100 ft is a lot of work believe it or not. Would be nice to have that info ahead of time or posted on the door when we arrived. 2) washers and dryers are not free like some bases and they are small and there are only two. Would be nice to have a larger washer dryer for the cost. Also TLF has free laundry..... 3) we requested to stay in the site we had picked when the office was closed and the staff member said they couldn't move us. I don't understand why. Swapping spots in the computer should be easy. We ran into this at another base famcamp before too and we got moved 4 times in a month there because they let short stays have preferences. I used to work at an RV resort as a registration manager for 1500 sites. So I find this all very confusing, but it seems to be the normal operating procedure at famcamps. As for the park, very scenic. No wifi at the rigs, but appears that they have wifi in the office and a nice area to sit. The bathrooms were nice with good size shower heads and lots of water pressure. It is plenty quiet in the evenings too.
A nice campground at Shaw AFB. The morning are a little noisy since the F-16 work and play here but they have a nice exchange, great golf course and nice displays of aircraft at the entrance. The campground set up is a little odd since the water is next to the grill and the black/grey water dump is sits high above the ground. Overall the price is right, there is a gym within a 5 minute drive, and you can rent all of your outdoor adventures plus more.
This was the first trip with our fifth wheel RV. Primary purpose was an ID card appointment for our recently adopted daughter and to learn how to use the RV. A very nice and clean place. The RV park was very quiet. There is jet noise at times, but if you are eligible to stay here you shouldn’t have a problem with that. Our fifth wheel is 40 feet, which required parking our tow vehicle at the edge of the camp site, right next our RV, along the wide road through the park. Not a problem. TV antenna picked up local channels. Verizon service was good. About one hour drive to explore Columbia, SC. Minimart, smaller exchange and smaller commissary are a short drive from the site. ID card office does take walk in appts. I did not see diesel fuel at the on base gas pumps, but their is diesel just outside the gate.
