My kids and I just got back from a two night stay. This campground was beautiful. The trails were wonderful, 6-8 miles of easy river trails right from the campground. While the creek water was frigid, the creek was the prettiest and clearest river I think I've ever seen. I found this place healing and peaceful; I plan to go back. My kids weren't too fond of the flying bugs (liked the big beetles and butterflies) and dust (it was dusty but it was a light dust). The single pit toilet was amazingly clean and hardly smelled. Probably the cleanest pit toilets I've ever seen.
Great space, though it's a bit of a drive to reach it. If you are not comfortable driving over gravel roads or on wiggly windy roads, consider getting someone else to drive it, though taking it slow, it's not too bad at all. There is no service out there so prep anything you want beforehand, including your map to and from!
We took our 6, 10 and 17 yr old with us camping here. It was a beautiful drive in and we enjoyed our two nights. The little creek next to us was fun for kids to play in.
I visited here in April '22 to find the campground closed, apparently since October. While I have never camped here, I would definitely recommend this spot to campers who don't mind being off the beaten path. Some of the campsites have amazing locations, and even the worst ones look pretty good. Seems like some of the spots need some work (picnic tables getting to worn down, etc.) The bathrooms looked on the rough side, didn't go in. Upside: Capitol State Forest is a paradise for bikers, hikers, horse riders, ATVs, dirt bikes... Definitely stay here to get away from it all for a few days with some fun recreation in the deal. Also be careful - you'll notice lots of signs related to firearms. There are plenty of gun ranges in the area; you're bound to hear them. Olympic Otter
Yup. Amazing. Miles and miles of trails. Family kid friendly and not hard for them. Lots of streams and a few waterfalls. Never have had issues with people or wildlife and your just enough out to be alone but not to far from something or someone if you need it. Usually a handful of mountain bikers or runners out. Occasionally horse riders especially if you got towards McKinney or on Lost Valley Trail.
