Location and Accessibility

Falls Creek Campground is conveniently located near the charming town of Winthrop, Washington, with the address listed as Winthrop, WA 98862, USA. This places it strategically within the beautiful Methow Valley, a region celebrated for its stunning scenery, abundant recreational activities, and welcoming communities. The campground's position makes it a fantastic base for exploring the eastern slopes of the North Cascades.

One of the significant advantages of Falls Creek Campground is its accessibility. Visitors often find it easy to get to, even when navigating unexpected detours on scenic routes like Highway 20. The campground is situated right next to a river, offering a picturesque setting that enhances the camping experience. A key point of access for a popular attraction, the trailhead for Falls Creek Falls, is conveniently located just across the street from the first entrance of the campground. While the sign for the trailhead can be small and easily missed initially, its close proximity means you can quickly transition from your campsite to an invigorating hike.

The drive to Winthrop itself, and then on to Falls Creek Campground, is part of the experience, offering scenic vistas that showcase the rugged beauty of Washington State. While the area can be subject to natural phenomena like past forest fires and the potential for flash flooding during heavy rains, the main access points are generally well-maintained. Always check local conditions and advisories, especially concerning road closures on routes like Highway 20, which can impact travel plans. Despite this, the general ease of access makes Falls Creek Campground a highly appealing option for a wide range of vehicles, from cars to RVs, though campers should be prepared for potential unpaved sections within the campground itself.

Services Offered

Falls Creek Campground provides a relatively rustic camping experience, emphasizing immersion in nature over extensive modern conveniences. While it offers essential facilities for a comfortable stay, campers should be prepared to be somewhat self-sufficient, aligning with a traditional camping ethos.

  • Outhouses: The campground features nice men's and women's outhouses, indicating the presence of basic, non-flush toilet facilities. These are generally well-maintained and provide a necessary amenity for campers.
  • Spacious Campsites: Visitors frequently note that the campsites are very spacious. This allows for comfortable setup of tents or parking of RVs/campers, providing ample room between sites for privacy and enjoyment.
  • No Potable Water: It is important to note that campers will likely need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and washing. The absence of readily available potable water taps means you should plan your water supply accordingly before arriving.
  • No Electricity Hookups: As a traditional campground, Falls Creek does not offer electrical hookups at individual sites, requiring campers to rely on their own power sources (e.g., solar, generator, or battery) if they require electricity.
  • No Showers or Laundry Facilities: Campers should not expect on-site showers or laundry services, reinforcing the rustic nature of the campground.
  • No Garbage Services: While not explicitly stated, typical forest service campgrounds often operate on a "pack it in, pack it out" policy for trash. Visitors should be prepared to take all their waste with them upon departure to help maintain the cleanliness and natural beauty of the area.

Understanding these services (and lack thereof) is key to a well-prepared and enjoyable stay at Falls Creek Campground, allowing campers to fully embrace the outdoor experience.

We were driving the scenic 20 to the west side, disappointed it was closed past Winthrop, and had to make new plans. This place was an amazing happy accident! We felt lucky we ended up here. It was dreamy, and we couldn't have planned a better weekend getaway. We spent hours taking in the beauty of the waterfalls. Easy to get to, and we only saw two other people.

We only drove through the campground and used one of the 2 nice men's/women's outhouses. It was right next to the river. It looked like you would need to bring your own water. Campsites were very spacious. We actually came to see the falls. The trailhead was just across the street from the 1st entrance of the campground. The sign was very small and we missed seeing it right at first. It was a very short and easy hike to the first falls. We didn't venture up any further to the other falls because my husband had a weak ankle and didn't want to chance twisting it on the rocky, steep, switchback tail. Lots of evidence of past forest fire. Flash flooding can happen if heavy rain hits.

Such a peaceful little place just right off the road. Enjoy a nice paved path for handicap access all the way up to the base of the waterfall. It's an absolutely gorgeous to see in the spring and summer time during the heavy runoff and enjoying the cool mist of mountain fresh water!!

If you want to beat the summer heat in Winthrop, drive a few miles out of town, and walk this lovely, easy trail. The waterfall is beautiful, the air is moist and refreshing.

The roads are clear as of 4-6-2019. Wr didnt have to worry much about snow, it was however downpouring, but we still had a wonderful time at the falls, which are roaring right now.
