Tucked away high in the Manti Lasal mountains, Ferron Reservoir Campground is just lovely! The wildflowers were in full bloom during our stay and surround the reservoir and campground. The reservoir is a short walk from most of the campsites with some having lake views. Unlike many lakeside campgrounds, Ferron Reservoir was not windy at all, making kayaking really enjoyable. The water is so clear, and while we didn't fish, we saw some pretty decent sized fish. Literally millions of Dragonflies were hatching around the shore and appeared like a ring of blue from a short distance. Amazing! Word of warning - Google maps gives directions to this campground that are not advisable. It takes you over a very high mountain pass with very steep drop-offs and a couple of spots where parts of the road have fallen away. The safer route is through the town of Ferron and then up Ferron Canyon, past Millsite State Park and Willow Lake. You will have to travel about 22 miles on a dirt road, parts of which are a little washboardy and have some dips here and there, but is overall a pretty decent road. The reservoir and campground were definitely worth the journey!

This was what I imagine when I want to go camping in the forest. The north loop was a little busy with a number of people in trailers and lots of pets. We were lucky enough to be in the south loop with only 2 other campers. The road was very well kept in the campground, and each site was well maintained. The bathrooms were clean and the water was within a reasonable distance to our site. This location is BEA-utiful! There is plenty of wildlife, a nice quiet lake, plenty of ATV trails, and the weather was perfect for an early July camp out! NOTE: I would strongly recommend taking the road from Ferron into the campground. Google maps suggested taking Manti Canyon, and while it was also a beautiful drive, the road was just larger than an ATV trail, and was littered with large rocks. I heard the road from Gunnison isn't as bad, but for a vehicle towing a trailer the Ferron road is best.

I loved my time at this campground. It is at high enough elevation that the temperature was probably 25 degrees cooler than in the salt lake/Tooele valleys. There were wildflowers everywhere and ferron reservoir is very picturesque. There are lots of fish in the lake. There are plenty of faucets that dispense potable water which is super convenient. There were also plenty of available outhouses which were acceptably clean. There is a nice nature hike with lots of interpretive signs with interesting information. This hike doesn't seem very popular though. It looked to me like most of the people who come here come with ohv's. That is the only reason I don't give 5 stars. The ohv's disturb the peace of the location. If you come here make sure to do some star gazing. You can see them really well here!

It's always a great time up there. Just don't forget garbage bags. They do need to get some cleaning supplies up there is they expect you to clean.
