Firemans Park Campground Introduce
Fireman's Park Campground, located in the charming city of Libby, Montana, stands as a distinctive and community-focused option within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. More than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV, this site is an integral part of Fireman's Memorial Park, a vibrant city park dedicated to honoring the Libby Volunteer Fire Department. This unique blend of recreational amenities, historical significance, and affordable camping makes it a popular choice for travelers seeking convenience and a welcoming atmosphere in northwest Montana.
The environment of Fireman's Park Campground is characteristic of a well-maintained city park, offering a balance of natural elements and urban accessibility. Situated right off U.S. Highway 2, it provides easy access while still being set amidst forested terrain, offering some shade and a pleasant, park-like feel. The park itself is flat and grassy, with dedicated camping areas that accommodate both tents and RVs. Temperatures in Libby generally range from comfortable highs in the 80s Fahrenheit during summer, making it ideal for outdoor activities, to colder winters with snowfall. The park's central location within Libby means campers are close to various city amenities, yet still within easy reach of the vast natural beauty of the Kootenai National Forest and surrounding mountains. While not a remote wilderness experience, the environment is clean and peaceful, especially during quiet hours. The presence of mature trees provides a pleasant canopy, contributing to a relaxed setting.
As a notable entry in the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Fireman's Park Campground offers a range of services and features that prioritize convenience and value. It provides semi-primitive camping facilities with approximately 15 individual campsites available. Each campsite typically includes a picnic table and a fire ring, allowing for traditional outdoor meals and campfires. A key amenity for campers is the availability of potable water at spigots located throughout the park, eliminating the need to haul in drinking water. Clean restrooms with flush toilets are a significant convenience for all campers. For RV owners, an RV dump station is available on-site for a nominal fee (often a $2.00 donation is suggested), making it a practical stop for those passing through or staying for a few nights. It is important to note that individual campsites do NOT have water or electrical hookups, reinforcing the "semi-primitive" designation. There are also no facilities for baths (showers) directly at the campground. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning reservations are not accepted, so it's advisable to have a backup plan, especially during peak travel times. Camping is permitted for a fee of $10.00 per site per night, with a limit of five nights per stay, encouraging turnover and allowing more visitors to enjoy the facilities. On-site volunteer hosts are often present to assist visitors, maintain the campsites, and provide local information. Pets are generally welcome but must be kept under control. The park also features two sheltered picnic pavilions, which can be reserved through Libby City Hall for family and group events, adding to the community-oriented services.
The features that make Fireman's Park Campground appealing extend beyond just camping. The park itself is a hub of community activity and recreation. It boasts a well-maintained playground, providing entertainment for younger visitors, and a splash pad, which is a fantastic amenity for cooling off during hot summer days. The park's historical significance as a memorial to the Libby Volunteer Fire Department is highlighted by the Volunteer Fireman's Tribute Monument, commemorating over 100 years of continuous service, and a bronze statue of a fireman. This provides an educational and respectful element to a stay. While specific trails are not detailed for the park itself, its location affords immediate access to Libby's various offerings. For outdoor enthusiasts, the campground serves as a convenient base for exploring nearby natural attractions. The famous Kootenai Falls and the impressive Libby Dam are within easy driving distance, offering opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, and photography. The Kootenai River also provides excellent fishing opportunities. Being located centrally in Libby, campers have immediate access to retail shopping, family dining options, and numerous business offices, making resupply and local exploration incredibly convenient.
Promotional information for Fireman's Park Campground typically emphasizes its affordability and convenience. It's often highlighted as a "hidden gem" due to its low cost ($10/night) and the amenities it provides within a city park setting. The presence of potable water, flush toilets, and an RV dump station makes it particularly attractive to those seeking basic comforts without the higher price tag of private RV parks. The family-friendly features, such as the playground and splash pad, are also key selling points, positioning it as an excellent stop for families traveling through the region. The park's historical tribute to the volunteer fire department adds a unique community aspect that is often noted. Its central location in Libby means it's promoted as a practical base for exploring the town itself, as well as accessing major local attractions like Kootenai Falls and Libby Dam. Reviews often praise the cleanliness of the facilities, the friendliness of the volunteer hosts, and the overall value for the price. The "first-come, first-served" policy is a common point of discussion, with advice to arrive early, but it also implies a certain freedom and spontaneity for travelers. Overall, Fireman's Park Campground is promoted as a welcoming, practical, and budget-conscious option for campers who appreciate a blend of city amenities and access to natural wonders, all within a park that honors a vital part of Libby's community history.

Customer Reviews
How did this campground get 4.5 stars??? It is one of the filthiest most rundown places we’ve stayed. If it wasn’t so late we would’ve pulled on through. It doesn’t help ignorant campers believe a fire pit is a trash can and cigarette butts are biodegradable (they are not but are EVERYWHERE). Sites are overgrown and unlevel. The RV next to us (and others)obviously surpassed the 5 day stay limit unless all of the household items surrounding their screenless RV are simple to load up and move. Doubtful. So unfortunate what could be a decent, safe, clean place to stay appears to be a homeless encampment. Come on Firemen- do better/ spend some time to maintain your asset!
Awesome little campground. The price is right, it’s close to downtown and there’s a grocery and liquor store right next door
Just the coolest thing to have a campground in town with an awesome playground
Basic camping amenities (no shower or site electric or site water) but has water, dump station. Nice place to stop, enjoy Libby and the surrounding area. Nice playground, close to grocery store and restaurants.
Passing through and stopped for an overnight. $10 still and was right next to route 2 but not too loud at all. We would stay here again for sure. Google didn't get us her correctly. Enter into the Kootenai River Country visitor Center, and you see it. Ben, the camp host, was cool and directed us to where to go. Site #1 was out home for the night.
