Forest River Campground

We stayed a summer at this campground til we could find a place and everything started off ok. The place seemed friendly, kids enjoyed their time for a while, but then the toxicity of the campground showed its face. Everything you are about to read has eyewitnesses to these events and it’s time people knew what happens in this campground. While staying there we noticed a lot that was off about this place and the owner. For instance, the owner needed me to put on the dry erase board that the septic tank was clearly overflowing and no one could empty their black water tanks. Then after several more people getting involved, he got someone out there. The owner is known around the campground to be an alcoholic and his girlfriend too. He verbally attacked my kids mom in front of our children and threatened to kick everyone out including the people who owned the camper. He was irate because my kids mom had words with his intoxicated girlfriend to whom got behind the wheel and almost hit my children and their mom with a pickup truck. My family was on a golf cart casually driving around the campground like many do and his girlfriend wasn’t paying attention. But he only got one side of the story and verbally abused my kids mom in front of our kids. Yes he was intoxicated. It gets even worse. There is a family that is friends with the owner and their children run amuck in the campground. The younger two are typically the better behaved ones but the oldest Is the issue. He would beat up on the other kids in the campground including girls younger than he. Pulling hair, pushing, fist fights etc. where are his parents you may ask? Answer: no where to be seen. Their parents gave them a walkie talkie in order to communicate with them. Their campsite is on the other side of the creek where the playground isn’t located. The oldest even threatened adults and used the owner as leverage to do what he wanted. This child often made highly inappropriate comments and gestures towards my oldest daughter and she wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself. When she had enough of his S Harassment she defended herself but was stopped before she used extreme violence. Then near the end of our stay the owner kicked my oldest daughter out and no one else. She defended herself and the owner kicked her out, he again only getting one story and not both sides. I wanted to get the police involved on many occasions but everyone was so afraid that the owner would kick everyone out that was involved except the guilty party. People tiptoe around the owner because he protects his favorites and this family is one of them. Again the mom and dad of this child are never seen because they are at their site getting intoxicated instead of watching their children. I’ve seen many families supervise their children but these people seem to think they don’t have to. If you rent a lot here, just know that these children will trespass when they want to because they are friends with the owner. Just know if you upset the owner he will typically get one of his lackies to do his dirty work and he won’t be seen. Hopefully Jim, the owner, sees this and does something before he loses his business because he is protecting the wrong people.

This spring-like weather has me looking forward to camping at Forest River, and the relaxing time we spend there. We’ve only camped for two seasons, but we have made some life-long friendships with some of the kindest and most welcoming people I’ve met in a long time. Our children and grandchildren visit and we have made some great memories together. The sunsets on the water are breathtaking. There are occasional social gatherings to meet “newcomers” and the food and games and fellowship are great! In the evening, you can enjoy your own music and campfire, or sit back and let some of the neighbors share theirs! The children are very well behaved and seem really happy. I’ve never even seen an argument! There’s just too much to keep them busy! And when they catch some fish, or don’t, they have smiles on their faces as they go past either way. I’m looking forward to another relaxing camping season, and the friendly pot-lucks and campfires with friends and family 😊 The sounds of the river allow me the most restful sleep… I really cannot wait for another season to begin! Awesome location right on the Mississippi river. Owners are usually present and very friendly. Place is quiet and well-kept.
