Forks State Forest Campground Introduce

Welcome to Forks State Forest Campground, a rustic and serene camping destination located at 8585-8627 Brown Bridge Rd, Traverse City, MI 49696. As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, we offer a unique outdoor experience for those seeking a peaceful retreat in nature. You can reach us at (231) 922-5270 or +1 231-922-5270.

Forks State Forest Campground provides a truly rustic camping experience. Each of our approximately 10 campsites is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, allowing you to enjoy the classic camping atmosphere. A community water well, monitored by the state, is available for your convenience. The campsites are generally open, offering beautiful views of the clear river, and some provide direct water access. The open nature of the campsites does mean there is limited privacy between them, which is something to consider when booking.

One of the key features of our campground is its proximity to the river, making it ideal for water activities. A kayak and canoe launch is located just outside the campground, and a fishing pier is available at a separate parking lot and access point. This makes it a convenient location for fishing and canoeing enthusiasts. The campground is also close to trails and hunting areas, providing ample opportunities for outdoor exploration. Furthermore, its location near Traverse City allows for easy access to stores and other local amenities.

While we offer a rustic experience, including the allowance of generator use, please note that our facilities are basic. The campground is known for its quiet and natural environment, making it a great spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. The cost is approximately $20 per night, providing an affordable camping option.

In summary, Forks State Forest Campground is a perfect destination for those seeking a rustic riverside camping experience near Traverse City. With its beautiful setting, convenient access to water activities, and proximity to local amenities, it offers a unique and enjoyable outdoor getaway.

Completely rustic. U get a picnic table, fire ring and a community water well(monitored by the state) and beautiful campsites along the river. Don't see any rules regarding generator use so we did alittle. Close to stores,TC,trails and hunting. Kayak/canoe launch just outside the campground. Maybe 10 sites at 20 per nite. Great spot.

The 9 campsites are very open without much vegetation in between, most of them overlook the beautiful clear river, some have direct access to the water. I would have rated it higher if there were more privacy between the sites, but that's a personal preference. The location is quiet and rustic overall. There's a separate parking lot and access point with fishing pier and canoe/boat launch. Convenient location for fishing and canoeing down the river. Also not far away from Traverse City.

2 large campers ran a generator ALL night despite it being posted they can't be used 10pm-8pm DNR was no help when I called to see if they could come let them know about the policy (I'm not going over there and getting shot) around 11:30 and then texted DNR at 12:30 when they went to bed leaving the generator on for their TV! They said they were sending someone. At 1:30 when my head was pounding, I texted yet again and was told "There's no ranger on duty tonight, so you have to call the local non-emergency line" after letting me think someone was coming for 2 hours! I gave up, didn't sleep a wink, and didn't get the chance to enjoy a nice morning in nature. Go to a private campground, at least they care and enforce quiet hours. Not worth the $20 for an shared outhouse, a fireplace, and a picnic table.

This is a great place to hang out with friends in the water or take your dog to go swimming.

Beautiful campsite. Definitely will be staying here again. A couple of things to know: River is a Type 1 Trout Stream so the stream is only open to fishing from the Last Saturday in April to Sept 30th. Also campground does not have a dumpster. So you'll have to take your trash.

Great little campground. Right on the Boardman river. 9 sites most being right on the river. 20 miles from Traverse City right off of a main route into town. We loved everything about it except for the one fifth wheel that ran a generator from 10am to 10pm every day even when they weren't actually there.

Really beautiful rustic campground with sites right on the river. It gets a little buggy at times which is good for fishing but not always fun for camping.
