This site allows individuals to walk the grounds where significant Civil War battles took place and learn about the events that transpired here.
The environment of Fort Fisher State Historic Site includes both indoor and outdoor elements. Visitors can explore the grounds, including a recreated rampart made of wooden planks, offering a sense of the historical layout. The site also features a museum that endeavors to bring the land and sea war waged at Fort Fisher to life through its exhibits. The beach area near the fort also holds historical significance, with a display recreating its appearance after a battle.
Services at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site primarily revolve around historical education and preservation. The museum houses a collection of artifacts related to the battles that occurred here. While the older portion of the museum was noted for being very interactive and providing a great rendering of both battles, along with a plethora of artifacts, reviews suggest the newer, upstairs section is smaller and can become crowded. I was moved to tears by the visceral sights I saw at FT. Fisher State Museum. How very well they brought land/sea war that was waged here, into the building and grounds. The curator here must be something extra special. The Museum only takes donations to enter. I dropped a 5er in the box. After I left, I realized it should have been more.
This is a great place to walk around and learn about the battles that took place. Living in the area for the past 15 years. I knew what the old museum portion was like. It was very interactive, gave a great rendering of both battles and had a plethora of artifacts. However, the new museum portion is nothing to write home about. It is upstairs and small and can get crowded easily. They do have a great display and recreation of what the beach looked like after the battle. Moving over to the recreated rampart. It is very cool to walk through but it is just wooden planks. I would have thought they would have cutaways with displays of what life would have been like during the battle. All it's a fun place to walk around and I'm looking forward to the reenactment.
