Frazier's Campground Introduce
For us Minnesotans, the call of the lake is practically a second language. When it comes to finding that perfect spot to cast a line and soak in the natural beauty of the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Frazier's Campground in Pelican Rapids offers a unique proposition. Situated with direct access to the renowned Pelican Lake, this campground is primarily a draw for those whose hearts beat for fishing and the simple joys of lakeside living. While it embraces a more rustic approach to camping, its core appeal lies squarely in the abundant waters it borders.
Pelican Lake itself is a gem in Otter Tail County, a region famous for its incredible density of lakes. Known for its diverse fish population, it provides an excellent backdrop for anglers of all skill levels. Frazier's Campground taps directly into this resource, making it an undeniable focal point for anyone eager to experience some of the best fishing Minnesota has to offer. It's the kind of place where the promise of a big catch is as real as the beautiful sunsets over the water.
While some visitors might find the amenities to be more traditional or "no-frills," the true highlight here, as consistently noted by those who know it best, is the lake. "Best lake ever. Excellent fishing for Northern Pike, walleye, crappie, sun fish, and large mouth bass!" one satisfied angler enthusiastically shared. This sentiment perfectly captures the essence of Frazier's Campground: it’s a haven for fishing enthusiasts. If your priority is easy access to fantastic fishing and a peaceful lakeside setting, then Frazier's Campground is certainly worth considering for your next Minnesota outdoor adventure.
Frazier's Campground is located at 45501 Co Hwy 31, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572, USA. This places it within Otter Tail County, a region celebrated as the "Land of 1,000 Lakes" (though in reality, it boasts even more than that!). Pelican Rapids is a charming small town in West Central Minnesota, known for its iconic "World's Largest Pelican" statue and its proximity to numerous bodies of water, including Pelican Lake.
The campground's address on County Highway 31 suggests a relatively accessible location, likely off a main county road that can accommodate various vehicle types, including those towing campers or boats. For Minnesotans traveling from major metropolitan areas:
From Minneapolis-St. Paul: The drive is approximately 3 hours to 3 hours 30 minutes, covering a distance of about 180-200 miles northwest. This makes it a feasible weekend getaway or a longer vacation destination.
From Fargo, North Dakota (just across the border): Pelican Rapids is much closer, typically a drive of about 45 minutes to an hour, approximately 35-40 miles southeast.
From Duluth: The journey would be longer, approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, covering about 200-220 miles west.
The region's road network is generally well-maintained, ensuring a smooth drive to the campground. Its location directly on or very near Pelican Lake is its primary accessibility feature, allowing for convenient access to the water for fishing and boating activities, which is a major draw for visitors to this area of Minnesota.
Based on available information and customer feedback, Frazier's Campground appears to offer a more traditional, rustic camping experience, focusing on essential services rather than extensive modern amenities.
Campsites (with varying hookups): The campground provides sites for campers. While one review mentions charges "even if you don’t have a camper with any hook ups," implying that some sites may have hookups (e.g., electric, water), it also suggests that non-hookup sites are available. Visitors should inquire directly about the types of hookups offered and their availability.
Lake and Fishing Access: This is a primary service and highlight. The campground offers direct access to Pelican Lake, renowned for its excellent fishing opportunities. This includes areas for launching boats or fishing from the shore, providing convenient access for anglers.
Bath House (Restrooms/Showers): A bath house is typically available, providing restroom and shower facilities for campers. However, a past review critically notes that "The bath house makes you feel like you’re going to walk out with a bunch of diseases," suggesting that upkeep or cleanliness might be a concern for some visitors. Prospective campers should manage expectations regarding the condition of these facilities or confirm current conditions directly.
Fish House (Cleaning Station): A "Fish house" is mentioned, indicating a facility for cleaning fish caught from the lake. The review states it "could be bigger," implying its presence but possibly suggesting a need for more space or better amenities within it.
It is important for potential visitors to contact the campground directly to confirm the exact services available, their condition, and any associated fees, especially given the varying nature of amenities in rustic campgrounds and feedback on maintenance.
Exceptional Pelican Lake Fishing: This is unequivocally the top highlight. Pelican Lake is celebrated for its excellent multi-species fishing. Anglers consistently report success with a variety of popular game fish, including Northern Pike, walleye, crappie, sunfish (bluegill, pumpkinseed), and largemouth bass. Some sources also mention smallmouth bass and muskellunge, indicating a diverse and thriving fishery. This makes Frazier's Campground a prime destination for dedicated anglers.
Direct Lake Access: The campground's proximity to Pelican Lake is a significant feature, allowing campers easy access for launching boats, fishing from shore, or simply enjoying the lakeside environment. This convenience is crucial for those planning water-based activities.
Rustic and Quiet Atmosphere: For those who prioritize a simpler, less commercialized camping experience, Frazier's Campground offers a rustic setting. While some may view the lack of "upgrades/upkeep" as a drawback, it contributes to a more traditional, quiet camping feel, appealing to visitors seeking a genuine escape from bustling, amenity-rich resorts.
Ideal for Dedicated Anglers: As suggested by the strong positive review focusing solely on the lake and fishing, the campground caters specifically to fishing enthusiasts. If catching fish is your primary objective, the lake's reputation makes this an attractive base.
Location in Otter Tail County: Being in Otter Tail County, visitors are immersed in Minnesota's famous lake country. The area offers countless other lakes, charming small towns like Pelican Rapids, and opportunities for scenic drives, providing options beyond just the campground itself.
Potential for "Getting Away": Despite some critical feedback, the very nature of a rustic campground by a lake offers the opportunity "to get away from…" the stresses of daily life, as implied by a review. It provides a chance to unplug and enjoy the natural environment.

Customer Reviews
Use to be a great place for families & to get away from…It has gone down hill significantly over the years they will charge you an arm and a leg even if you don’t have a camper with any hook ups and for as much as they charge people you see no sort!of upgrades/upkeep. Fish house could be bigger, The bath house makes you feel like you’re going to walk out with a bunch of diseases. I’ve been to other long term campgrounds and they have so much more to do & make it welcoming. The only thing this place has to offer is the lake & fishing.
Best lake ever. Excellent fishing for Northern Pike, walleye, crappie, sun fish, and large mouth bass!
It's okay for a quick stop but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit.
A little slice of heaven
We are the owners and the people here are very nice
