Gaea Retreat Center Introduce
The Gaea Retreat Center in McLouth, KS, stands out as a unique and deeply intentional destination for Kansas locals seeking more than just a place to pitch a tent. Established and maintained by Earth Rising, Inc., a 501(c)(3) Educational Nonprofit, Gaea is not merely a campground but a 168-acre sanctuary dedicated to community, cultural and spiritual education, environmental respect, and personal growth. It provides a welcoming, natural retreat area for people of all spiritual traditions, with a strong focus on serving marginalized groups and LGBTQIA+ individuals, offering a safe space that promotes connection with both the land and the community.
The facility is currently experiencing a renaissance, with staff and volunteers actively working on updating and maintaining the buildings and grounds, giving the entire center a revitalized and welcoming feel. Visitors often speak of a "magical experience" and an environment that encourages self-expression and peace of mind. The center’s core appeal lies in its commitment to being a safe and inclusive haven, allowing guests the freedom to be themselves while enjoying the tranquility of the Kansas countryside.
While the setting is rustic, with a few buildings showing their age—which some describe as adding to its "earth rising based appeal"—the focus is on community and the extensive natural amenities. Whether you are looking to attend a scheduled festival, host an event, or simply find a peaceful spot to camp, Gaea offers an experience rooted in acceptance and connection, all conveniently close to the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Customer Reviews
Looks like the place is really making a comeback. The buildings look like they are all being worked on and updated, or at least on the earlier stages. Whole new staff as well. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming! It was a magical experience like none other❤️
Well where should I begin, my first time visiting Gaea was on the 11th of July. I heard some mix reviews from friends who told me about this place from their past experiences from many years ago. I just recently returned this past week for a day pass and and overnight stay as well. I will say that it was a really fun time. Facilities: Main Hall, Dining Hall, Registration office, Showers & changing rooms / Bathrooms, Camp ground, campfire pits, RV hooks, etc... Amenities: Hiking trails, Lake, Swimming, Fishing... My experience while I was visiting is that the retreat center is a bit of a need of a fixer upper. Many of the main buildings could use a lot of maintenance. However being that the location of this retreat center is out in the country side most of the buildings have begun to age with the time and weather. Which gives this place its earth rising based appeal to it. Personally beside what most people think this is also a wonderful place to host events. Many of the sites around Gaea are very beautiful and peaceful. If you are looking to have a fun time or get away for a weekend trip, this will totally give you that relaxing appeal to it. Whatever your searching for in terms of peace and relaxation this place is where it is at. I found many sites on the grounds that provided me with a bunch of both. I have also read reviews about is this a Nudist camp or clothing optional? This is not a Nudist Camp, however "Clothing" is optional In many areas of the grounds. If you desire to learn more about these rules and conditions you can call and find out or visit and speak with one of the caretakers on site. They can give you all the information in regards to this. My last remark will be that for me I personally found this place to be a wonderful peace of heaven near to my home town. Its nice that its so close near by, making trips out to and back is very nice. My desire for why I visited Gaea was to find a place where I could be Nude and find peace of mind while enjoying outdoor activities. This place gives me the freedom to be myself and meet and spend time with interesting new people. Its my hope that this land and its people on it help bring what I call Family into my life. Also one "Major piece of INFO" Please make sure you book a day pass on their website before venturing out to Gaea. You will not have any signal to access the internet when you arrive at the Main Gate. This happened to me on Wednesday July 24. Please make sure you book a Day pass or overnight pass in advance. Also their website page is under construction, so when you visit the site you will see a log in at the top right to make an account. If your wanting to book a day pass please follow these Directions: 1. Home Page: highlight Events - Camp Registration 2. Camp Registration - First tab - INFO - Register HERE - Click button. 3. New page will open up, Online Registration software for Gaea Retreat center tri-2 2024 will be the page you will be on. Next, follow the steps on how to Create Account and fully complete the application process. Once you have fully 100% complete the application and verified your Email, you should be approved. 4. Dashboard: Scroll down to Attendee Profiles and select "Add Passes" 5. Select Tickets - here you will be able to pre order your day passes and book ahead for which ever week or weekend you wish to attend. 6. Make sure you check the "Home Page" - Calendar for any upcoming events before purchasing your tickets. This way you can plan around the upcoming events and plan out your trip accordingly. 7. After you purchase your tickets you will receive a valid email from Gaea within 24hrs confirming your purchase and be given a active gate code for the days in which you plan to visit. Please Note Gate codes only work for single day use if you purchase a single day pass. They don't work for the entire week you may have chosen to go.
My front porch for 4 days. So peaceful!
Ive been going to Gaea Retreat since I was a kid and it is easily some my most formative and important experiences. Ive continued to go through adulthood and now volunteer for festivals and just on regular work weekends to help out where I can.
This was my second time ever experiencing this peace place. A lake to fish. Cabins to rent with fire pits outside. They even have a shower house. Loved the experience.
