I added photos as I went along, confirming that as I progressed along the path the view definitely gets better. 1. You must booking your visit (hiking or camping). 2.It is a walk of at least 7-8 hours round trip (there is no option) NOTE: No dogs, no drones... 3. The first 6 km are quite steep but the path is paved so it is not difficult. 4. Getting to the campground does involve climbing narrow paths, only one person can go through and it is climbing over stacked stones. 5. Ask yourself if you have experience or are in good physical condition. It seems easy but it can be a big challenge to WALK 24 KM on an incline, and then put impact on your knees on the way back down the same incline. 6. Consider all of this if you plan to go camping (for the issue of carrying the necessary equipment) . 7. Bring enough water! 8. I only saw 2 bathrooms and there is no water to wash your hands, bring your own hand sanitizer. BUT... Is that it definitely has spectacular views as you advance along the trail. Beautiful views, beautiful streams and rivers, mountains around...
The campground is 9km from the parking lot. The first 6km climb steadily with some steep switchbacks, the final 3km are rather gentle. The campground consists of 50 tent pads, around the wooded area, so few have views of the lake. There are 4 shelters for cooking as well as tables outside for outdoor meals. The campground is an excellent spot to enjoy the lake all day long, especially later in the day when the day crowds have left, or for day hikes to Panorama Ridge or the Black Tusk. This campground and Panorama Ridge should be in the bucket list of all backpackers.
June 28-29 2024 Still winter conditions at campsite The campsite is not well maintained and many of the tent pads are still snow covered. Plan to arrive early to secure a clear tent pad. We arrived late and had to shovel lots of snow to clear a pad. Thankfully we found shovels in the shelters or we would have been in serious trouble. Took us about 3 hours to reach campsite. Although it was cold, there were some mosquitoes there but it wasn’t too bad. There are multiple shelters, food hangs, picnic tables and washrooms throughout the campsite. Campfire is prohibited.
Took about 3.5 to reach the site as a beginner hiker and about 8 hours total for a round trip. Trail starts to flatten at around 6km in iirc. Remember to bring some snacks, water, proper hiking gear and enough copium to gaslight yourself into thinking that you’re not tired and the clout you’ll get from the picture taken at the top. 11/10
LOVED this hike and campground! I went in early July and there was still plenty of snow by the lake but most the tent platforms were cleared by previous campers. The hike itself is flattened and a nice gradual incline. They have hangers for food bags to keep away from bears so you dont have to worry about casting it up a tree. They also have porta potties (bring your own toilet paper) and cooking sheds.
