Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road Introduce

Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road, located at 282 Cairo Junction Rd, Catskill, NY 12414, offers a secluded cabin stay experience within the Eastern Catskill Mountains. As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, it caters to those seeking a nature retreat with a focus on minimalist cabin accommodations.

Key features of this campground include:

  • Secluded Cabins: The campground provides small, minimalist cabins designed for a nature-focused getaway.
  • Scenic Location: Situated in the Eastern Catskills, it offers access to hiking trails and nearby towns.
  • Nature Immersion: The location provides a woodsy environment, allowing for a deep connection with nature.

Customer reviews highlight several aspects of the Getaway experience. The location is praised for its scenic beauty and access to outdoor activities. However, there are consistent concerns regarding customer service, specifically the lack of responsiveness from staff via email and AirBnB.

Other points to consider:

  • Insect Encounters: Due to the wooded location, guests should expect to encounter insects within the cabins.
  • Cabin Conditions: Some cabins may have issues like poorly fitted screen doors or residual cigarette odors from previous guests.
  • Extra Charges: The campground charges for various extras, so guests should be prepared for potential additional costs.
  • Cabin Accessibility: There have been reports of guests being placed in handicap accessible cabins when they did not request them.

Despite these issues, many guests appreciate the peaceful environment and the opportunity to disconnect from daily life. It is recommended for short stays, and potential guests should be aware of the possible customer service challenges and the natural environment's inherent insect presence.

This is my second stay with Getaway House (stayed in NH prior). I really enjoyed this one more as there was significantly more things to do and see. I was placed in a handicap house that I did not want , so I did feel morally wrong. Besides that , the only things I disliked was that the screen door was not flush with the door frame so insects would crawl under the door if we left it open (wolf spiders, mosquitoes, moths) and the previous people SMOKED inside and outside the house. The inside smelled horrible of cigarettes and there were cigarette butts all around the fire pit. We had a good area away from people and faced the woods. It was pleasant driving (at most) 45 minutes away to do more hiking and see other towns in the vicinity. Absolutely would go back here again!

It’s really nice here, easily a 4-star review apart from the fact that staff were completely unresponsive via email/AirBnB. I emailed with a question prior to our arrival - no response. Sent another email as soon as we got there - no response. Absolutely zero responses for the entire time throughout our stay, despite an automated email encouraging us to get in touch if we had any questions!! What on Earth? Really bad customer service, which was a huge shame to experience. Otherwise, great place as long as you don’t mind some huge bugs sharing the cabin with you. The bugs were a little unnerving but the location is in the middle of the woods so it’s to be expected. Also, a bit tacky to charge for every single extra in the cabin. We brought our own food etc though so were fine. If you can somehow get the staff to respond to any questions you might have, or have none, then you’ll probably have a great time here for a night, but I don’t think I’d stay for more than one.

So refreshing! Good destination to have a little break from work or city life. The cabin was clean and nice. Very calming, a bit eerie at night. I just wish they improve the stove since it’s a bit complicated to use. Also they charged everything: the coffee, tea, smores, that I think should be free and included since the price of the room is already expensive lol.

We had enough amazing experience with the Getaway camping site!! Upon arrival the place was beautifully clean! They have everything set up on site so you don’t really need to bring along a lot of things! They even had marshmallows and skewers on site! We took the DIY kit as we wanted to have a bigger tent, if you don’t need a lot of space I would recommend taking the full package. Staff was very friendly and they replied in every text message I sang them even at 2 in the morning! Thank you Getaway for creating a beautiful experience for my family!!

I think people who live long term in the crowded city really starving for some empty space around them. If you think, you live in crowded building, commute surrounded by crowd and work in the office surrounded by many people. There is always some buzz happening. And here is silence that can be translated into anything you desire. It can be emptiness or it can be filled with thoughts or memories. It was surprisingly uncomfortable to stay with yourself longer than one night and says a lot about that almost lost connection. I wish that place was a little bit closer to manhattan so I could’ve come more often, but most likely it is for the better. The whole idea of tiny house with giant windows is mesmerizing, you waking up seeing all the changes with light in the woods. The only thing I wish it was better taken care of, as some stinky smell is unfortunately already there;(

My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at Getaway last week and didn't want to come home. The cabins at Catskills West were spread out so we had a lot of privacy. We loved how quiet it was. As we were walking around we noticed that not all cabins were built exactly the same. Just like a hotel, not all rooms are exactly the same, so don't be surprised if your cabin doesn't look exactly like what you saw on social media or even on Getaway's website. You do get that nice giant window looking out into the woods next to the bed, but you might not get a small window at the foot of your bed. We had an air conditioner there, but we had plenty of windows around the cabin. We usually go camping in the Fall, so this was a nice change to have our own private bathroom in our cabin. Our cabin was clean but there were big old webs on the ceiling sides and corners. It didn't bother us but I was surprised no one bothered to clean them. We were in the woods so I'm not complaining, but just letting others know so they're not surprised if they see it. The team at Getaway are super responsive, friendly, and helpful. Great customer service really made our trip a memorable getaway. TIP #1: The dry flush cartridge for the bathrooms are supposed to give you 15 flushes, but in our experience, sometimes we only had about 10. Flush conservatively. However, the staff changes the cartridge daily and there are portables to use near the entrance if needed. TIP #2: Our hot water tank only held 10 gallons of hot water before it is refilled, so keep that in mind when you are showering. It sounded like this varies between outposts, so if this is a concern, I suggest finding out ahead of time. TIP #3: Purchase their package deal for a more affordable stay. Their regular price is too expensive for what you get. We purchased 3 nights and had just enough time to hike a short trail to Kaaterskill falls, pick up fresh donuts from a nearby town, and just enjoy the cabin and our surroundings at a very slow pace. 2 nights would've felt rushed for us. I already recommended this place to all of my friends as we had a great experience. I am definitely coming back and will explore other outposts.
