Getaway Mountain Campground Introduce

Getaway Mountain Campground, located at 3628 US-5, Ascutney, VT 05030, is listed under the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. However, based on recent customer reviews, potential visitors are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and consider alternative accommodations.

Environment: One review initially noted the campground's cleanliness as a reason for extending their stay. However, another review described the campground as "just plan dirty" and mentioned dog poop being present throughout the area. This presents conflicting information regarding the environment's upkeep.

Services: The campground offers RV sites, and one review mentioned extending their stay for a longer period. However, the overwhelming feedback focuses on the severely negative interactions with the owners. Guests have reported being yelled at, falsely accused of not cleaning up after pets, and ultimately being asked to leave the premises, even after pre-paying for their stay, without a refund. There are no positive services highlighted in the provided reviews.

Features: The primary feature emerging from the reviews is the alleged extremely rude and unwelcoming behavior of the owners. One guest detailed a disturbing experience involving accusations, deliberate placement of dog poop, and being unjustly evicted with police involvement. This individual also claims the owners have been slandering their name to other campgrounds. Another review echoes the sentiment of rude and unfriendly owners and suggests the campground is unsafe for kids. The only potentially positive feature initially mentioned by one reviewer (cleanliness) was directly contradicted by another.

Promotional Information: Based on the overwhelmingly negative feedback from multiple reviewers detailing extremely rude and hostile behavior from the owners, accusations of harassment, and concerns about the environment, local users are strongly urged to avoid Getaway Mountain Campground. The experiences reported include being yelled at, falsely accused, and unjustly evicted. Potential visitors looking for a pleasant and safe camping experience in Ascutney, VT, should consider alternative campgrounds in the area, such as the "Running bear" campground mentioned as a much friendlier option. Contacting Getaway Mountain Campground at (802) 674-2812 or +1 802-674-2812 is possible, but given the severity and consistency of the negative reviews, proceeding with a booking is highly discouraged without further, significantly positive information from reliable sources.

I strongly urge anyone considering Getaway Mountain Campground to stay far away. Our experience here was nothing short of appalling. From the moment we checked in, the owners were extremely rude and unwelcoming. After staying for the weekend, we extended our stay due to the campground’s cleanliness, thinking it would be perfect for our family, including our three children with special needs and our service animals. Unfortunately, the owner’s behavior quickly escalated. One day, the man running the office drove by on his golf cart and began yelling and swearing at me, accusing us of not picking up after our dogs. I explained that we always clean up after them, but he refused to listen. We decided to leave for the weekend to avoid further conflict, but when we returned, we found piles of dog poop deliberately placed near our motorhome. Things worsened when one of our children, who is nonverbal, picked up a pile of the mess. When we addressed the issue with the office, the owner’s wife not only refused to acknowledge their behavior but also accused us of lying. The man’s hostile behavior escalated again, yelling and swearing at us in front of our children. He threatened to have us thrown out by the police, which he followed through on. The officers who responded could see that this was a personal issue and were baffled as to why they had been called. We were told to leave, but not before being denied a refund for the remaining days we had already paid for. To make matters worse, we’ve since learned that the owners of Getaway Mountain Campground have been actively calling around to other campgrounds, slandering our name. They falsely claim we don’t pick up after our dogs and that my husband chased the owner with a 2x4—an outright lie. The current campground we’re staying at informed us of this and has stated that they’ve seen no issues with us or our pets. In fact, the surrounding campers have no complaints, and the campground owner is willing to write a statement about the situation, including notifying the authorities of this baseless harassment. The entire experience left us feeling targeted and mistreated. We have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and have never encountered anything like this. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this campground at all costs. Verdict: AVOID Getaway Mountain Campground.

Worst campground in 30k miles. Rude, unfriendly and unsafe for kids. Dog poop everywhere, and just plan dirty!! Would not recommend this place to anyone. Running bear just up the road is a much friendlier campground.

We are RVrs that have traveled extensively the last 3 years and I have to say this is one of the prettiest campsites. There is lots going on and the facilities are kept clean. Nice shaded lots, nice pool area and grassy areas. Very nice play area for the kiddos. If you happen to come during the holidays, they have events and karaoke. The owners are very nice and if you get to know the seasonals they are very welcoming. We were fortunate to stay there for 2 months to tour the area, and really enjoyed ourselves.

I do not recommend this place. Staff is rude and unwelcoming. It’s cheap at $30 a night but you get what you pay for. They charge a petty $2/day if you use your AC. When we first arrived the female host complained to us about arriving while she was eating her dinner and made us feel very unwelcome. If there was any other open RV campground in the area, we would have left this place right then. Next we noticed they sit out front of there office, turn their chairs to an awkward angle and just stare at the campsites. Very creepy. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt that she was just having a bad day but throughout our stay we would smile and wave if they walked or drove by and they never returned a smile or wave. Our neighbor campsite actually left two days early because they were so uncomfortable with staff staring at them. They have 3 washers and 3 dryers. Two of the dryers were out of order. The worst part was they would constantly come out and yell at any kids at the pool for being too “rowdy.” The only reason they got a two star is simply because they have a pool and they seem to keep up in the cleanliness of it, although the rest of the campgrounds was not in as good condition.
