We have camped twice at Gifford Pinchot and both were amazing experiences. The campground is clean and well ran. We stayed at waterfront lots both times since my son loves to fish and the lake is clean and great for fishing. Bathhouses are well kept.
My friend and I camped here in June. Unfortunately, it was during the heat wave so we only stayed one night. This was our first time at this campground and we will definitely go back. We had site 319 which is on the lake. It was nice that we could kayak right up to our site. We had two tents, with plenty of room leftover. This particular site offers privacy, compared to some of the other sites. We fit a full size car and mid size suv in the parking space. There is a slight downward slope from the parking space to the site. The picnic table was rough but we didn’t care. The bath houses are not updated but they were fine. The firewood garage/shed was closed so we drove and got some. Lots of places sell it close by. Plenty of hiking within walking distance of the sites.
We stayed in a yurt 🛖 for the experience. It was good we did because we had a lot of rain and it was pretty spacious inside considering it slept 5. I only wish the deck would have been roofed off. Handicap accessible. In the rain that would be nice to still enjoy the serenity surrounding you. Bathroom was a little further away than I liked but I managed. Showers, well, room for improvement but at least they have them, wear water shoes! All in all not a bad experience but was different than a cabin by far.
Some of the reviews for the campground were so negative that I was a little nervous. Don't let them sway you!! The park was clean, well lit, full of families, quiet at night, and so peaceful! Site 115 was beautiful. Water views and NO bugs. Sites in our loop were well maintained. Bathrooms were older, as to be expected, but they were clean. We would definitely stay here again.
Nice state park. Reasonable rates and expected amenities. Water issues on the lake are a bit disappointing. Shower houses are okay. Park was near and clean. Some really nice group sites and others that are bit more iffy. Rangers are friendly and visible.
We just checked out of Gifford Pinchot SP. Pay close attention to the site descriptions on the website. Some sites are FHU, some are electric and water, some are nothing. Completely primitive. All the roads and sites are paved (some partial paved and gravel). The bathhouses are not great. They need updating and a thorough cleaning. The dumpsters for trash are only at the front of the park. We were there during the week, so it was quiet. But we heard that weekends are super busy and not quiet. It rained a lot before we arrived and noticed some of the sites get flooded. It's a nice park and we'll be back.
The campsite was not near as nice as pictured on the park website. It has standing water and mud everywhere. Just this site. It's odd. We toured around the campground and found most of the sites were small and very close together. We came here because we have stayed in the cabins here before and they are beautiful. Well stocked, clean. We expected a bit more from the campground. Also the bathrooms are very old and not well maintained. We are staying a week, hopefully some of this water dries up.
This is a hidden gem of a state park. Great camo site. I'll get that one again! Fishing was great. I loved how much nature was there.
