As part of a cross country road trip in September, we visited a number of National Parks with Glacier NP being one of them. we spent the better part of two days in the park. The going to the sun road was impressive to say the least. We drove it twice-once going east and once going west on two different days. So many wonderful views can be seen on this roadway. The many glacier area was just as impressive in its own way. We enjoyed the lodge at many glacier with its wonderful views. Did several short hikes-each impressive in the sites to be seen. Glacier was one of my favorite parks on our journey. If you are going to be in Montana, take the time to visit this park.
Glacier National Park has instantly rocketed to the top of my list of favorite national parks. From the moment I entered, I was completely captivated by its raw, breathtaking beauty. The iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road is an absolute must-do. The drive itself is an experience, with every turn revealing a postcard-perfect vista of towering peaks, shimmering turquoise lakes, and lush, verdant valleys. It's truly beyond stunning, and I found myself pulling over constantly just to soak it all in and snap photos (though no picture can truly capture its grandeur). Beyond the scenic drive, the hiking trails are where Glacier really shines. The hikes we chose offered incredible views and a sense of peaceful solitude. Even on a summer day, we found ourselves enjoying moments of quiet contemplation, surrounded by nothing but the sounds of nature. The trails we explored were beautifully maintained, which made navigating them a pleasure. A word of advice, though – always carry bear spray and be aware of your surroundings. This is bear country, and it's important to be prepared. The park's visitor centers are also worth a visit. They're not just informative, but also beautifully designed and staffed by friendly, knowledgeable rangers who are eager to help you make the most of your trip. Their passion for the park is contagious! Glacier National Park is more than just a park; it's an experience. It's a place where you can reconnect with nature, challenge yourself with invigorating hikes, and simply be awestruck by the sheer magnificence of the landscape. If you're looking for a truly unforgettable national park experience, Glacier should be at the top of your list. I can't wait to return!
Went here on a road trip and being from Illinois….oh my god it was absolutely beautiful! Went down the sun road which was awesome as well as extremely scenic. We had gotten a reservation so we were able to stop at lots of turnouts and take a ton of photos. Please note with these other reviews, there will be crowds, especially if you enter after the reservation time ends. But, it’s a tourist location? There’s going to be crowds dummies. Get a reservation. Also please pay attention to the website for when roads open and close. We went when nothing was closed however it changes during the season so pay attention and use common sense. I’ve seen a few negative reviews about closures however it is all online. Anyway the place is a must visit! Went to Yellowstone after and this blew it out of the water! Will definitely be back
This was our first visit to GNP and it was amazing. We visited the first week of September which was less crowded than high season. We didn't have a reservation for time entry so we drove around and entered from the east side which did not require a reservation. We started out early enough to get some wonderful photos and get in a few amazing hikes. We had the amazing opportunity to see a BEAR on our first day! As we were on our way leaving the park after a full filled day a bear came walking down the "Going to the Sun" Road directly in front of us. We were in the car driving and all we could do was stop, freeze and stare in AWE! This was definitely the highlight of our trip. During our visit we took in some amazing views, hike some awesome mountains and had the greatest experience of our life. We spent a week here and still didn't see everything. I would highly recommend a visit to Glacier National Park.
Absolutely stunning! McDonald Lake was so peaceful. There was a beautiful view every turn we took. There were a lot of pull offs on the “going to the sun road” which lead to scenic lake and river views. We went on the cedar and avalanche trail, but we didn’t get to finish Avalanche. Cedar trail is part boardwalk and dirt and very easy. We also did part of the Avalanche trail. It was a moderately busy trail which was good because it was grizzly season. The trail was moderately challenging. Glacier is definitely one of the most beautiful places I have been!
