Absolutely love it here. Camped out July 4th weekend, wasn't full. There's no camp host so naturally had a couple rowdy drunks one night that weren't in check, but I didn't mind. Used it as a base camp to backpack Fossil Ridge.
Beautiful, secluded, about 15 minutes from the road. Saw more moose and mule deer than people.
Great dispersed campground. No charge, vault toilet and empty July 5/6th 2022
Hard drive up the mountain and no signage on the way made me unsure I was even on the right path, but wow. Once you get to the top, it's very secluded and gorgeous! Please put up a sign about the campground being 7 miles to the top. Either at the bottom or maybe arrows at the mining entrance. I almost went the wrong way
The best trip for those in Colorado who love history with a withering abandoned mine down the road and almost a whole neighborhood of the hard working miners log cabins that are public land and are allowed to explore parks just asks that you don’t destroy it.
