This a rating of the river landing. The campground itself is just a big field that you can stay in for 10 days, first come first serve. There are two porta potties.
Beautiful place to stay, buggy, sites are easy and spaced out, dirt road isn't bad but the road does flood a little when it rains for 12 hours. Wasn't hard to manage in our bus since we had plenty of clearance.
Nice place. It's 8 Miles off the main road, the road is bumpy. It has a small boat ramp. There are a couple picnic tables by the water you can eat on. You might want to bring a cover. Some of the picnic tables are old. I can't hear on Feb 26 2023. The bugs were not bad. Camped in my Astro Van.
Beautiful oak-shaded spot on the Wacissa River with about 6 to 8 acres cleared. Located 9 or 10 miles from the Wacissa Springs launch, it affords primitive camping with toilet facilities on site and a boat ramp. The Wacissa has very clear water but is also full of aquatic weeds that will tangle in a normal boat propeller. I'd still to paddling, a surface drive or mud motor. Closed to camping during general gun hunting season. The Florida Trail hiking trail passes close by where the Aucilla River disappears and appears below ground in the forrest. Most of my pictures here are from the hiking trail, not the campground.
This is a wonderful camping spot by the river. It's free and a first come first serve. So, depending on the days you arrive here, you might not get a spot to camp. But the important thing to keep in mind is the campsite closes for the gun season between November 4 and January 23. I guess they still let you use the boat ramp during the day. The campsite is pretty primitive besides a few portable toilets. You should bring your own water. The aucilla river flowing by the campsite is just beautiful and great for fishing or kayaking if you get yours. The water is just pristine. There are about 10 individual campsites and a separate group use area but you do have to make prior reservations for the group camping. The individual sites have firepits and wooden tables, which are decaying. But it's a beautiful campsite by the river and you can spend 10 days at a time. I have camped here on two different occasions and found the same people camping here with their RVs. They were definitely homesteading. But that didn't really bother me. They did run their generator all day and all night. It's a free campsite, so you kinda expect that. But nobody bothered me and if anything, I felt a sense of security during the night with those people around, considering the campsite is in the middle of nowhere. The road leading to the campsite is off-road and might be a bit during rainy days.
Another cool campground that's falling apart, aren't our tax dollars being spent wisely? Free to camp with reservation with Suwannee Water Mgt., 8 miles of rugged road to get to the dozen sites. Picnic tables (falling apart), fire pits, no grills, spot a pots refreshed weekly, but also falling apart. Great spot for kayaking in the Wacissa River. Quite busy on Saturdays, rest of the week it's pretty empty. Only trail is 2 miles from the campground, take the road you came in on back to the info sign, you'll see the FL trail sign.
Great stay here had one night really bad thunder storm but made it through it ok!
