Only passed through the scenic drive en route to Bryce Canyon, but it was worth the slightly longer detour. Beautiful panoramic views from the byway typical of the wild Utah desert.
I was on a trip touring the national parks and google directions to Grand staircase Escalante! It took me to a sign in the middle of Utah! Evidently it is not a national park, just a monument! So there was no entrance, information, or viewpoints! The mountains were beautiful but not what I expected! This trip did take me on highway 9 through the bottom of Zion National Park for about 35 miles!
This place is beautiful, but it's accessible via a dirt road. The rock formations are truly stunning!
Some of the most breathtaking views on a single drive in all of the continental US! Only (sarcastic) complaint would be that it took so long to get to the other side because we kept stopping for photos every 20 minutes!
If you're into seeing sights off the beaten path, take the 40 mile drive through Grand Staircase Escalante, but make sure you have an AWD SUV as the road is quite harrowing and scary. You can't drive through here after or during a rain storm, as the road is not driveable. 40 miles of uninterrupted beauty for you to view the fantastic rock formations in the area, including an arch. Great place to fly a drone to see this amazing beauty. What I found interesting, is that there are wild cows all over grazing on both sides of the road.
