Granite Campground Introduce
Nestled in the heart of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Granite Campground offers a serene escape for nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, this campground provides a perfect setting for those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
The campground features well-maintained bathrooms, though visitors are advised to bring their own toilet paper as supplies may be limited. Campsites are decent but limited in number, making weekends particularly popular. However, mid-week visitors might enjoy the tranquility of having the place almost to themselves.
Granite Campground is a haven for hikers, with numerous trails in the area offering varying levels of difficulty and stunning views. Be prepared for a challenging drive to reach the campground, as the road requires high clearance and careful navigation. The rugged terrain adds to the adventure, making it a memorable experience for those who make the journey.
While the campground does not offer running water or showers, it more than makes up for it with its natural beauty and peaceful ambiance. Visitors should come prepared with ample bug repellent, as the mosquito population can be quite active. The campsites are situated on dusty and rocky ground, so ensure your tent is well-secured and stakes are sturdy.
Despite these challenges, Granite Campground offers a unique and rewarding camping experience. The campground typically opens later in July, so it's advisable to check with the US Forest Service for current availability before planning your trip.

Beautiful scenery, well maintained bathrooms (but bring your own TP as supplies are limited), campsites are decent, but very limited. Weekends are way popular, but middle of the week you may have the place to yourself. Good hiking in the area. The road to get to this CG requires high clearance, very careful driving, and good shocks. No running water, no showers, ridiculous amount of mosquitos so make sure your anti-bug game is on point. The amount of mosquitos is almost laughable. Campsites have places to put your tent, but it's on very dusty and rocky ground. Couldn't get stakes in, dust was a real problem. If you can handle all that, a buffet of treats await you. The CG opens later in July so check w the USFS before you go to make sure it's open.
The signs said don’t drink the water but I did and now I have dysentery
