Great Bay Camping Introduce
Great Bay Camping, located in the quaint country town of Newfields, New Hampshire, stands out within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category as a cherished family-run establishment. It offers a unique blend of tranquil natural surroundings, direct river access, and a strong emphasis on community and family-friendly activities. Unlike some larger, more commercialized parks, Great Bay Camping cultivates an atmosphere where campers are not just visitors but "soon become members of our extended family," promising a more personalized and welcoming experience for both short-term stays and seasonal residents.
The environment of Great Bay Camping is defined by its prime location along the tidal Squamscott River, boasting 600 feet of riverfront. This direct access to a saltwater river, which flows 14 miles to the Atlantic Ocean, is a significant environmental feature. The campground is nestled within a natural setting, described as a "trimmed pine and oak grove," offering a comfortable balance of shady and sunny spots for campsites. While it doesn't feature "fancy landscaping," its natural, wooded ambiance provides a genuine outdoor feel.
The river itself is a draw for fishing enthusiasts, with opportunities to catch striped bass and bluefish directly from the dock. The tidal nature of the Squamscott River adds a dynamic element to the environment, showcasing the unique ecosystem of the Great Bay Estuary. Campers can enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature, including crickets and frogs singing in the background, creating a relaxing evening atmosphere around the campfire. The elevation of the campground is relatively low, around 66 feet, contributing to its riverfront accessibility.
The immediate surroundings are rural and quiet, providing a sense of escape. However, the campground's location in Newfields, NH, places it conveniently close to various attractions in the wider New Hampshire Seacoast region. This allows campers to enjoy the tranquility of the campground while having easy access to nearby beaches, historical sites, and cultural hubs, striking an ideal balance between natural immersion and regional exploration.

Great Bay Camping distinguishes itself with several features that significantly enhance the camping experience, particularly for families and those who enjoy active recreation and a strong sense of community:

This is a rare feature for a private campground in New Hampshire. A fishing license is typically required for river fishing (e.g., striped bass, bluefish).
- Sparkling Swimming Pool: A clean and well-maintained swimming pool is a central attraction, providing a refreshing spot for relaxation and fun, especially for children. Children typically need adult supervision at the pool.

Customer Reviews
It's a small fsmily owned campground on Great Bay. Not a lot of traffic since it's inland more. Great Subs and Fried Chicken!
After a week long stay at Great Bay Camping, I have to say it is definitely one of the nicest campgrounds we've been to. First, the owner Dave, is one of the nicest and most accommodating people you will ever meet. During the recent heat wave... 90°F plus, he did everything within his power to make sure we would be comfortable. The campground is quiet, extremely well kept and well groomed. The setting is stunningly beautiful. We noticed that most of the seasonals take pride in their campers and campsites. The people we had the pleasure to speak to had only great things to say about Dave, the campground and their neighbors. We will definitely be coming back in the future.
Greatest family camping ever. We love it here and David the owner is the best. Our family has been camping here for almost 5 years now for our new tradition of family camp weekend. We can’t wait to continue the tradition. -The Kistler/Davis/Bartow clan.
We stayed 2 nights in late July to visit nearby Hampton Beach. This is a small campground hidden far out in the woods behind a Shell Station. Don't let that deter you. From your site you will feel completely removed from the Shell and the road. It's a long driveway in. The sites are well kept and spacious. We had full hookup and the sites are mostly level. The gentleman running things I believe his name was Dave is very kind and helpful. We would definitely stay again.
My stay at the great bay was one of the best days I’ve ever had at a campground. The showers were the most amazing showers I’ve ever been in .are like the ones you see on TV. It is in a very nice location right near the Hampton Beach which is a nice beach with the boardwalk. They have a pool where you can swim in which is very fun for the kids. Also with the playground which was fun for the kids. The staff was amazing and nice. So I think that you should stay at the great Bay Campground. But the mosquitoes are very bad so remember to bring your bug spray. So you do not get eaten alive.
